What’s happening in this The Blues Brothers movie clip?
Jake and Elwood arrive in a seedy area of Maxwell Street where they park their car and see John Lee Hooker as he plays outside a soul food restaurant. Inside the restaurant, the brothers meet Matt 'Guitar' Murphy, as well as 'Blue Lou' Marini to ask them to rejoin their band. Matt's wife (Aretha Franklin) sings "Think", warning Matt to think about it before leaving the restaurant they own. Matt and Lou quit, and the band is complete.

What’s the movie The Blues Brothers about?
Jake Blues (John Belushi from National Lampoon's Animal House) decides to re-form his music group with his brother Elwood (Dan Aykroyd from Ghostbusters). They want to raise money to save the orphanage where they were raised.

He was 50 when the Blues Brothers movie was released in 1980! Definitely looked a lot younger. Matt "Guitar" Murphy passed away in 2018, at age 88. Rest in peace Legend!

She had all been about forgotten when she appeared in Blues Brothers. Her last three albums had bombed and she left Atlantic records. That performance in the movie reminded the public how great she was and she would go on to have a great 1980s. Blues Brothers also did the same for James Brown and Ray Charles and reintroduced Cab Calloway. That's why The Blues Brothers is one of the most important movies when it comes to music.

Aretha has more voice than the saxophone. She could absolutely out sing anyone. Not my genre, but mad respect for her obvious talent. I also love that the Blues Brothers joined the choreographed part of the song. They're actively not on her side but has to join in.

Back in the day, late 70s, in South Shore Massachusetts, I used to see Matt (Guitar) Murphy playing in a band with the Zaitchik Brothers, in a place called Illiums in West Bridgwater. Some of the best blues evah! They frickin killed it! They had this skinny little white heroin addict looking sax player who was incredible. He looked like he was going to keel over any second, but that kid was smoking. Matt always looked like he could bench 500 lbs and snap the neck off of his guitar like it was a matchstick. Gawd I miss those days. The music was so good back then. (sigh)
