After listening to this twice, I was very disappointed that Willie Dixon wasn't even mentioned, one of the best stand-up bass players and music writers out of Chicago during this era of blues.. Nothing But The Blues! 💙🎶🎵

It's amazing that I've actually seen all these guys live in the 60's ! Mostly due to the Blues Buses which used to tour the UK in 1966 onwards for a couple of years. We all loved each other and the Guys were amazed they received such love from us especially as in the USA they were sadly still having to 'go to the back of the bus'! I feel blessed that I was born in the 40's and able to grow up with these guys and their music. Lived in the USA for 25 years but now I'm back in the United Kingdom but The Blues is still one of the main 'styles' Thank you USA. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS DIAMOND!

Brownie plays so smooth and clean, it's hard to believe his licks. Just so clean and not flubbing anywhere. As to Sonny, the harmonica just seems to fit like a glove. Their harmony was incredibly tight; every time I heard them sing it was like they were precise beyond belief. Sonny to piss off Brownie by attempting to overshadow him with the harp. Man I saw and heard some harsh words, but I love these guys. Brownie wherever you are in Heaven, keep on singing until I get there with my Martin too. Lub you guys !!

Dixon looks like he’s chilling out swatting flies drinking lemonade on a sweaty southern day. Meanwhile he’s rockin the stand slap style bass that he invented! Damn man, that cool.

I beg you pardon, the blues is alive and well. I travel the world and hear it in many countries and many venues. Granted it isnt like the people who play here. How could it be. I saw Howling Wolf in NYC, forget it, I can't come close. All I can do is write some new ones and hobble along. Big Chief

It's almost incomprehensible that this program was originally on a major network. I was a 7 year old kid when this was on and still ten years away from discovering this music for myself. I was lucky enough to see Muddy, Willie and Sunnyland. Sunnyland I could see on a weekly basis at a dive called B.L.U.E.S. on Halsted. In Chicago of course. Still a lot of great players in this town.

This was my proudest moment at CBC - had the pleasure of supervising the remastering the original 2" Ampex tapes on one of the only surviving 2" recorders on the planet down in CBC's vaults. I was just the Unit Manager but the producer knew I'd spent the preceding 30 years playing in a blues band around Toronto and Ms.Paton permitted me to choose songs and takes of songs from among many hours of available material. These takes are but a fraction of the recordings made of the sessions recorded in CBC Toronto's Studio #4 over the course of two days.

'Finished my hitch in '66. The Navy couldn't keep me from gettin' back to the city where I didn't expect to miss a thing. Mind you Sonny Terry and Brownie Magee played a certain coffee house outside of Halifax quite frequently back then and I could catch all the blues I wanted late at night on the radio. The signals from the deep south wafted in and out... on up the coast to the Nova Scotia shores. One of my Navy buddies recorded these early greats on his borrowed Revox reel-to-reel. History!

Zedge Chicago you should tune in to blues before sunrise on Sunday mornings from midnight until 5:00 on public radio. If you don't sleep during those hours. If you do you might be able to get it on tape or find a way to stream it on the internet. Different show every week and they have gospel and sometimes pigmeat Markham. You can learn a lot.

+el slammer Go find Muddy Waters album Fathers and Sons. Live version of "Got my Mojo Working". Actually 2 versions, I prefer version 2. Paul Butterfield on harp and the great Mike Bloomfield playing guitar, Otis Spann on piano and Duck Dunn on bass and Buddy Miles on drums. That version is my favorite, although this is outstanding.

Otis span a true blues legend. Not only a great pianist, he also has a fantastic voice. I think he was a bit underated probably because there were so many incredible blues musicians and vocalists around at that time. But he is one of my favourites. Passed away far to young, but will never be forgotten.
