@Andy Moffat Thats nuts, BMW is the consensus lowest quality brand of all time. I have well over $100K in repairs in my 420 HP 6 year old 135i (~half in BMW paid invoices), before I tuned it, ans its still got $10K due for new AC, four catastrophically cracked M wheels, a rear main seal leak, a leaking coolant system, and 2 bad 6MT synchros). There is no bigger POS than a modern BMW. Horrendous POS. These cars are goulish nightmares. And I've own three new, not one. The 1994 325i was below average with a badly creaking frame and cylinders misfiring (flakey electrical system) at 10K miles, but I had to unload it to move to Europe where I owned 4 BMWs, all GARBAGE. I bought a new Z3 2.8 on the move home. It burned up with just 3200 miles due to an uncrimped line out of the low end american factory. BMW refused to warrant it for almost a year as they said the VIN was counterfiet. They magically found it, after lawyers got involved. Compare to my two Jag F-Types, a V8 and a V6 which have had $0 work warranty done, the oldest is a 2014, so it still has a year of factory warranty. My other is younger and still under warranty too. The Germans offer joke warranties for good reason. PS the F-Type is a massivrly superior car to BMW. Hellaciously faster, 1000x better sounding (30 dBA louder is literally 1000x louder) and are wonderfully luxiourous and exotic. My BMWs are total garbage 50% plastic engines, and the interior is literally cracked from the sun on every major surface (another $5K needed min). German Engineer means lazy, incompetent crap. I saw it first hand living there for years. Total shitboxes.

​@Andy Moffat Not sure what you're on about there. Jag is seen as a tier above Audi and Mercedes, which is seen as a tier above BMW. In Central London, most luxury car hires have the Jag at a higher tier of pricing than the german cars.

@@andywmoffat Audi and BMW are horrendous dogshit. I have both broken in my garage. Jag is a luxury brand of the most exquisite taste. They are making a mistake lowering prices, but still are better than anything under $300K.

unfortunately this engine is going away cause it is nearly a decade old and can't handle future emission norms. JLR is expected to use the BMW's 4.4L twin turbo V8 in their future performance cars once the stricter emission norms kick in ....

This comment is for anyone looking at these cars: TheX3 M40i is such a good car in this segment. 0 to 60 in 4.4 (from reviewers) and I’ve seen as low as 4.1. But unlike the X3M it doesn’t punish you every fricking day with that ride quality. If you are buying just for yourself, fine, but if you have a spouse who isn’t as performance oriented the M40i is hard to beat since you both get what you want. IMHO of course. Edit: If you are OK with something a little bigger, don’t overlook the Audi SQ7, some people don’t even know it exist. Twin turbo V8 over 500hp and it handles like a dream. A worthy sleeper and looks a,axing with the top SQ7 wheel options.

If I was a single guy, I kid you not, I’d look at the GLA AMG45 - batshit crazy little car. Just fun to hoon around in.

I think so too. A lot of magazines are paid by manufacturers to either post the best possible numbers in the best possible conditions or the cars that are given to them are factory freaks. I find Car & Driver to have the most aggressive times generally. I believe the 11.8-11.9. That's definitely attainable in good conditions with an X3M Competition. Another note is that BMW loves to underrate their engines. So it's usually "503HP" on 91 octane and they have a tune built in to make more power on 93 octane.

@@SpeedLabsMotorEnvy but even at 530 horsepower, it's still 4500lbs. I just don't see 11 second quarter mile times being attainable with anything less than 600-650hp. You have to remember that AWD robs more HP than 2wd does. It helps on the launch but the power it's taking away definitely would affect it on the back end. So to say this thing is running 119 which puts it close to Hellcat territory is ridiculous. It's actually trapping faster than a Trackhawk which has double the displacement and 200 more HP. I just don't see it.

You're right, I didn't even think about it that way. Taking results from the same source, the X3M does trap 3mph higher. It sounds fishy to me too. I can overlook E.T. because a lot of that comes down to launch control, tires, and transmission/gearing but I remember I did a test a while ago with the BMW M850i xDrive and when I cross referenced C&D's times, it was way faster (like R8V10 fast) and it doesn't make sense because those cars are just not in the same league. So I firmly believe that BMW has a habit of sending testers with a beefed up tune to magazines as well. Something that is not talked about, but I put a lot of emphasis on, is density altitude which plays a huge factor in combustion engine performance. Either way, there are way to many variables even when using correcting factors. I'll try to get my hands on both a Trackhawk and X3M Comp and do a head to head comparison.

Allow me to say unequivocally that BMW's recent numbers are all sandbagged for unknown reasons. I had my X3MC dynod prior to a tune at 563hp. Granted, I had a stainless freeflow primary cat installed, but that was prior to my stage 1 remap. Needless to say, this engine is making at least 540hp stock.

@@carl3smith It still ain't running an 11 second quarter mile with only 540hp. Especially when the jaguar has more HP and weighs the same and doesn't run anywhere near what they claimed the BMW ran. They did the same thing with the M3, then I drove one and realized my vette would destroy it.

I'm awaiting c8 and I still have my charger hellcat and c6, theres just so many great choices and not enough money in the bank. For reference a model3 performance runs 11.9@114 at my track to my m340i at 12.08@113

What results did you get in your M340i in terms of 40-100 and 60-130? I never got a chance to do standing metrics with that car (I wish I did though because with the new season, I'm adding 0-60, 0-100, 1/4 and 1/2 mile). 12.08 @ 113 is really respectable for that car.

X5M weighs 5100 pounds. X3M weighs 4620 pounds. FPACE weighs 4655 pounds. You can do the math, I won't insult your intelligence.
