"The glory of our age, the bringers of joy....there will always be poverty and pain, war and injustice in this world, but, thank the lord, also always be The Beatles." Best. Line. Ever.

Sonia Galimberti I would ❤💙💚💛💜 to dj on that ship, in fact I don't think there was a song I hate that was back in the 60's, I can't stand a lot of untalented music these days but back then it would be hard to hate for me

Oh I'm feeling sobsorry for the actor (someone help me with the name, please) that they deleted this final part from the original film. I get that it wasn't essential to the plot or to the film's unique humor but it was his scene... and a very sweet one one highlighting Spike Seattle's underdog and underrated role on the boat! 🤷🏻‍♀️

It is obvious why they deleted this scene because there were no Beatles songs in the film. Probably because EMI wanted too much money for Rights. Also, If the scene had been included most film goers would have then complained even more that the most important artists of the era, the Beatles, were excluded from the film. I had the enormous pleasure to experience Radio London and Radio Caroline 24 hours a day while I was at the University of Essex in Colchester in the mid 60s. Thanks for the memories Philip Seymour Hoffman and I loved his role in "Patch Adams", playing a completely opposite character to the "Count".

After the film, I wondered why there were no Beatles songs. From what Tony Blacknurn said many artists had to be careful at the time, do didn't want to be played as it was pirate radio..something to that effect
@gideonharris1493
@gideonharris1493 4 жыл бұрын
I know this was written 6 years ago but no. Radio Caroline did play the Beatles especially those Beatle songs banned by the BBC. Why they are not included in this movie would be a matter of copyright.

@@gideonharris1493 Exactly. In fact Radio Caroline played A Day In The Life as their final song before the airways went silent. Talk about best choice. Then the boat was towed. She did not sink until 1980.

@@gideonharris1493 Yep, plus by mentioning Abbey Rd and the Beatle salute, that was their nod to the Fab 4 probably because the fat industry bastards wouldn't let them use their music.

Harold ftw! Why they would cut a Harold appreciation scene? :(
@RabidNemo
@RabidNemo 3 жыл бұрын
Honestly a lot of the scenes they cut were really stupid! It performed very poorly at the box office in the UK and for whatever reason whoever was in charge of releasing it in the US cut over 20 minutes of footage. Granted a portion of it was definitely padding But there were a lot of scenes like this and radio sunshine that did not deserve to be cut

I unfortunately did it to salvage the budget. The movie was over two hours with its original cut and wasn't very profitable in the UK unfortunately. So when they re-released it in the US they retitle that Pirate Radio and cut over 30 minutes from the movie

See the opening speach on the dvd section, you can tell to take these scenes out was extremely painful to take out. I bet it was 11th hour. First time I have ever seen that from a director. You can tell on his face. There must be a cut with all these in or the full uncut movie

They were actually only taken out in the US version. The original cut of this movie was over two hours and it didn't do very well at the box office so when it was released in the US it was retitled Pirate Radio and had over 30 minutes cut from it

A great scene, but of all the deleted scenes, this was probably the one that necessitated cutting for one very simple reason: it is the only scene that portrays ANY of the ship’s crew on shore. It does kinda take away from the isolation they managed to build for the rest of the film. So while I think this scene is golden, it was a good call.

I have to think that the "I've never..." game and a couple of other less-funny minutes here and there could have been cut to make room for such a great scene. Watching Richard Curtis introduce these deleted scenes, it was clear that the film would have been three hours long, if he'd had his way.
