And so the person who tempted me into buying this game tempts me to buy it for my friends. Dorfromantik is a genuinely delightful little game that is perpetually chill and hardly any stress, unless you add the stress yourself. A point of note, perfects not only give you more points, but they also give you a bonus tile, so they can be what saves a run if you can find some perfects with your last tiles.

Making massive water tile (rivers or lakes) or railway networks is probably a good habit to have, because some of the 3 challenge missions up in the top right of the screen will award you new colours for boats and locomotives for building a sufficiently large connected network of their respective tiles. I'm still trying to unlock the final few train and boat colours and I've played this game since it first came out on steam early access.

6:38 "It is the challenges that give you more tiles, perfection just gives you more points" - actually perfect placements do give you tiles too. Any time you surround a tile with perfect placements it grants you an additional tile. So you can get up to 7 bonus tiles from one placement if all the surrounding tiles your placing against have also been perfectly placed prior to it. And that's more than the 5 you get from fulfilling quests. So its actually a huge part of the game. Once you get the hang of balancing out working towards perfect placements vs cashing in (and possibly ruining perfect placements for some tiles) tiles when you need to, you'll find your high scores will increase dramatically. In the early game I'll usually go out of my way to maintain perfect placements as best as I can because you start off with a nice tile buffer to be able to do so. This way as the game progresses and tiles start to get lower I can do my best to fill in the middle of the board as I get the right tiles and start elevating my tile count in between quests. Sometimes I'll go with a "close enough" tile if I'm getting really low on tiles and need the tile boost to continue on. Which is fine because you can still pick up a number of tiles on a single placement if you've been building things out correctly. But if you have the tile buffer, its always worth placing perfect edges as that'll allow you to continue to replace tiles as you go by getting those super satisfying 7 tile perfect placements. The way I see it, each tile replaces itself when its perfectly surrounded Obviously that's not going to happen every time, so if that was the only way to replace tiles it'd be a zero sum game. So I actually see the quests as supplemental to tile placement, vs the other way around. The quests are a buffer to compensate on the eventual losses you'll take when you can't meet the real goal of the game: perfect placements.

I think that's more a sign that you _should_ play the game yourself, and that it's a bad game for you to watch Let's-Plays of 😉 I'm the same by the way. I can barely watch any Let's-Plays because it infuriates me when the player makes suboptimal choices, which is nearly impossible to prevent even for the best players out there, as it's a huge task to play the game and stream (i.e. entertain viewers) at the same time, so mistakes are bound to happen and totally understandable! My conclusion was to mainly watch highly edited playthroughs narrated in post (allowing the presenter to concentrate on the game while playing), like by Pete Complete's videos. Or games I know nothing of myself, like Aavak's Going Medieval. Or one-shots like his First Taste videos. It also helps realizing that some "bad" decisions might actually be deliberate choices to add some excitement (like placing hospital beds far from the defensive structures to get some "is he gonna make it in time?!" moments), I can accept that more easily 😉 It might also help to watch them live so we can shout at them in real time, but who has the time to watch one of Rhadamant's 8 hours streams?? (even if they didn't start in the middle of the night for European viewers)
@KainYusanagi
@KainYusanagi 2 жыл бұрын
@@sourcererseven3858 I'm nowhere near that bad, but when I see an obvious mistake caused by scatterbrainedness, because they're trying to talk and not focus on playing for example, it always irks me a lot; I've always advocated gameplay first, interaction second, unless it's something like an idle game where there really isn't "optimal play" except in optimizing the amount of points you get in the shortest amount of time, which isn't all that interesting itself beyond speedrunning. Doing things deliberately inefficiently for an added challenge is a completely different beast; I have no issue with that sort of thing at all. Optimizing challenge play is fun in its own way, like for example, Iron Pineapple's recent "Can you beat Elden Ring while being overburdened (without horse and using quickstep as minimally as possible)" challenge video. I actually LOATHE streams, for the most part, in large part *because* of that morass of interaction; it distracts and fractures the streamer's attention even more, unless they're someone that barely interacts with the stream to begin with, but then they're usually boring even frustrating to watch because you don't get even the curated/scripted interaction you get with dedicated videos.

Perfects are not just for score. Completing a perfect tile gets you a tile added to your draw pile. This sounds bad at first blush as completing a challenge gets you 5. But, as you noted, challenges tend to get larger as you go along. The initial perfect is 1 tile for 7 placed tiles. But, if you chain perfects off that initial placement you start to lower that cost immensely. IE, the 2nd perfect off the first would only cost an additional 3 tiles. 2 for the next perfect, etc.

Love the game. Dorfromantik is so relaxing to watch! Really glad to see you try the game, did you know, it's the master project of four blokes from Berlin? They are actually regularly updating the game, so I'm glad to see you try it once more at full release! Honestly, I'd love to see a long run of it, many creators on KZfaq only ever do a Let's Try and showcase the game once, but it's really fun to tune in into a landscape that's coming together, one tile at a time, beautifully narrated by Aavak, I'd say. After a long search, I found this nice danish bloke that does a run 50+ episodes and counting and has accrued a 130k+ score - also a very gentle person, maybe you two are up for a collaborative? (Fingers crossed!) Anyways, I'd love to see more of this on your channel, it's as soothing as watching you play Kingdom.
