I love how deep they went into the Tusken lore, from mentioning how Tatooine once had oceans to the trip to get the wood for his gaffi stick. The ritualism and the ceremony was fantastic, and really built more on the Tuskens as a cool nomadic people with their own culture like in KOTOR or in The Mandalorian, as opposed to them just being portrayed as screaming savages in the New Hope, Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. I can't wait to see more of the Tuskens, especially that badass warrior (she kicks all kinds of ass) and the Chieftan.

Yes and also that no one is born evil. Their lifestyle, environment and influences is what can turn them evil. There is more to the Tuskens and that is why Star Wars has barely been explored in the film series(the EU explores more but the amount is still small by comparison to the galaxy’s length). That is why Star Wars needs to be a cinematic one that way we can explore more of the galaxy in the galaxy far far away and that is why Jon Favreau is the right man for the job.

About that female Tusken Warrior - she ws played by Joanna Bennett, a famous stunt woman. She apparently was a double for Gal Gadot, Brie Larson and a lot of others. She nailed every second in that ep. It is epic that the baddest Tusken is a female, man. And that gaffi stick piece when you said that they're made with so much ceremonial flare and they use them to clean their banthas teeth - it reminded me about what I read about dogs in Native American cultures, mostly Santee Dakota. They were used as a carrier and drag animals but also as a sacrificial feast on very special occasions (like warriors going on a warpath consumed some dog meat as a sign of faithfullness and trust on the war party leader) in some tribes, especially before NA started to use horses as their main mean of transport. So the ceremony and the most common stuff often goes hand in hand in the native cultures. And for that I love this and the Mandalorian, cause these shows made Tuskens much more badass and worth exploring more, for me at least cause I am into tribal stuff like that.

FANTASTIC Episode! The Tusken Warrior is listed as Joanna Bennett who seems to be known as a stunt woman and actress for stunt doubling in Aquaman, Captain Marvel and many others, she is Badass!!! Maybe that tree was like the “ancestors” of the Tuskens, it seem to have eyes all around it kinda like the tree in Black Panther maybe. And maybe that was his consciousness merging with the Tusken collective spirituality? It was very cool! Sooooo glad that we are learning more about the Tuskens! Lots of allusions, allegories, or just images that say something special to many people in the fandom. I particularly liked the Mau rākau style Boba has in The Tragedy, tight quick moves with his gun like it was a Patu. I'm glad they just have a flavor of Maori moves and don't appropriate the fighting style completely. I was impacted more than I thought by the Pykes shooting sand people and Banthas from the train, like it was sport or maybe like a death squad. That happened 150 years ago just east of where I live to American Indian tribes. Made me feel nauseous. Keep commenting; love to hear what NZ eyes see in these episodes.

Which gives me hope for seeing live action Aphra. I have a couple of theories on the Tusken tribe: 1) I have a feeling they will come into play later against other crime syndicates aiding Boba when he needs help and/or 2) The pikes will get revenge and wipe out that Tusken tribe, giving Boba more of an emotional arc. Just a theory but not impossible. Anyway, I'm digging this show so far and love all the different homages to what inspired SW to begin with! And the cameos of Fixer and Cam!! I’ve been thinking a lot about how Star Wars “is like poetry, it rhymes”: we’re getting a lot of Skywalker notes in Boba’s story. You guys mentioned how he took down Tatooine Gordo was like Leia taking down Jabba, and I recall in Mando season 2 when he returned, we all loved the “like my father before me”. But now I’m struck by how when Boba comes back from his vision quest and is given the robes, I realized that that’s another Skywalker echo: that’s “arise Lord Vader”, but happy.

Such a great episode. So many firsts. And I've always dug the fact that when it comes to the Tuskens, it always had a cowboys and indians feel to it. And nowafter Mando, and BoBF we are seeing that what we've known about the Tuskens isn't all true. Seeing their culture and who they are built into this whole other substrata of the universe we all know and love is just amazing. Favreau is God!

You're right about the deserved outrage about the Bantha. Like killing a buffalo for no reason. Makes me think of Charles's rage in Red Dead 2. At first I didn't think much of it. I noticed the Bantha was dead later, but didn't realize they killed IT first! Like a calculated move to weaken the Tuskens.

About your comment on such ceremonial weapons being used to brush the teeth of Banthas, Banthas are very sacred to the Tuskens, so it makes sense to me

Saw a post on Reddit from someone asking why the "twins" took so long after Jabba's death to stake their claim to the throne. Someone else responded by saying that's how long it took to carry them there.

This means that when the fight with the Hutts come up, Boba has a tribe of Tuskens to back him up. The dream was definitely ancient Tatooine. The Dune Sea is literally the bottom of an evaporated sea. The pinpoint sniper fire of the Tusken directed at the train reminds me of The Tusken Executioner from a mmorpg played a long time ago...... SWG. Before NGE and CU, when we were one community, before the Dark Times.

this was amazing. Loved the detail, the robes, the crafting, the training the flashbacks and his awesome standoff with the hutts. Boba has balls to just stand there. I wonder how he's going to take out that wookie. OMg...blows my mind.

Here's a rumor you guys might like. You know that couple in the bar that Boba helped out before he stole those speeders ? Rumor has it that those two grew up with the nephew of Owen & Beru Lars, before he left Tattooine with some old desert hermit to go join the the rebellion. I think the old hermit turned out to be a jedi from the clone wars days too. But it IS just a rumor. LOL

Regarding the Pykes, usually the Clone Wars greatly exaggerates their characters designs. So live action Pykes, looking different from their animated counterparts, is to be expected.

What an amazing and insightful episode! Have a whole new appreciation for the Tusken people and the details into the various rites of passage was mind blowing to say the least, to say that this blew away my expectations of this as a series is a huge understatement. What seem like such a trivial line earlier when he said he wanted to rule with respect suddenly becomes more poignant as you see how much he genuinely respects the Tuskens and how it looks like that he wants to extend that mutual respect for all on Tatooine. Can not wait to see how this all plays out, this shaping up to become yet another classic in the Favreua/Filoni era!

Good ol' Tem rolling out the 'Jake the Muss' at Tosche Station. Apart from The Last Samurai vibe, there's a lot of Dances with Wolves going on too. As a fellow Kiwi, Tem saying 'Ancestral claim to the land' carried a bit of weight. So good that they are spending the time to develop Boba Fett's honour code rather than just give a mercenary a shopping list of people to kill.

I really, REALLY want to see Bossk come into the series. Just see the cadre of Boba grow as he forms his powerbase. I love Cad Bane, but Bossk just has a special place in my heart and since they were close in Clone Wars, it'd be awesome to see him return.

During the production of "Attack of the Clones," we were teased about seeing Tusken Raiders and I hoped to see so much more of their culture than what was shown. Still, that was at treat at the time.

I'm pretty sure them shooting banthas from the train is a reference to how bison hunters in the Wild West would shoot bison from trains. While the main reason for the bison's decline was massive commercial hunting, there was also the political motivation to remove the Plains tribes' major food source, and I'm guessing the Pykes are doing the same thing here. They are leaning hard into the Space Western vibes with this series and especially the flashback stories, I love it.
