My review of Ruth Ozeki's The Book of Form and Emptiness, a novel which features the Jorge Luis Borges short story, "The Aleph" as a bit of cleverly woven intertextuality.

I really liked this book when it first came out and I enjoyed your review. Also enjoyed the prior Ozeki book.

So I finally finished this book. Sorry it took so long but the subject matter was too intense (a close family member lives with Benny's condition) and I found that I needed to put the book down and stay away for hours. But I'm glad I finished it. It is very well written and I appreciate the techniques used by Ozeki to convey how it feels for someone living with voices. I watched your review and it's very good. and I agree with most of your points. Magical Realism is not my favourite genre and I find that, it in some ways, it minimizes the world so that it cushions reality and puts forward the idea that it's okay; things are okay; You're okay. Well, they're not and things have to change. So I don't think Ozeki is for me. Now, I'm going to watch your top 40 Albums video. 🙂

That's a completely fair point. Honestly I hadn't considered the minimization of a mental health condition by melding it with a world of magical realism. I don't suspect it was done maliciously, but I can easily see how that take would be hard to consume. Thanks for your input!

This book is more in depth than the picture books I normally read. 😂 The book seems like a great book!!! Great video dude. And that Salty Vet dude probably doesn’t even know how to read so he has no use for books.

if you're looking for a good picture book, I used to read Once Upon A Twice to my son when he was little. That was really fun to read aloud. Keep watching my channel, we'll adopt each other. I'll learn you to read, and you can learn me how to live on the road.

Bright Lights Big City by Jay McInerney is a good book that's written in 2nd person perspective. It's the only novel I've read in that pov.

Okay. I gave you a thumbs up. And I stopped watching at 1:11. I'll go read the book and then come and watch the video. No angst for you and me. I'll be back.🙂

Explaining first, second and third person to actual readers is really unnecessary, don't you think?

You're 100% right. I had a two friends who didn't know what second person was so I thought it would be good to explain, but after watching my video again after uploading it, I realized I was just talking down to everyone else. It's one of those balancing act things I'm learning as I go.
