The Book of Lies, or Liber 333, is a holy book in the Western occult tradition of Thelema, consisting of 91 short chapters of poems, aphorisms, rituals, and metaphysics. Those familiar with Crowley's hermetic writings will recognize his subversive and playful style. This comments section is a litany of somewhat endearing yet feeble half genuine attempts to understand intellectually. So many bemoan “I cAnT uNdErStAnD wHaT hE’s TaLkInG aBoUT”. The gate doesn’t open to the hard headed snub nosed cynic. Open your heart if you can and the flower may start to bloom. You attempt to understand with the mind and that’s the first error. This book is meant to break your brain and mind from its shackles and patterns. It’s a koan of contradiction meant to bring about enlightenment. Zen koans are similar. Research those with genuine open mindedness and you may start to understand.

This book was written for the master of the temple aspiring to be a magus. How will a fool understand? Do what thou wilt, It is the whole of the law. But, how can thou be sure of doing what thou wilt, when thou know not thy self. Know thy self then thou may consume thy self, consume self, kill they self, then be thy self. I have watched videos on KZfaq that are Crowley's writings and books (narrated audio books). Book of Law, Book of Lies, Magic Without Tears etc. His writings are cryptic and confusing to say the least. I have posted asking what do his writings mean and I never get an responses. My suspicions are that most people - even Thelemites have no clue what Crowley is saying as well.

Crowley wrote commentary on the book himself, but it could arguably be said that it offers more questions than answers as to the meaning. It seems that was his intention, the book is like a puzzle that he expects the readers to solve for themselves.
