I only annotate fiction if it is a reread...non-fiction is hit or miss. Sometimes the words are almost too important to take time to annotate imo. Other times annotation is nice because it helps pace you. But I also have a really simple annotation system. One highlighter and idc about the color of the tabs. It makes it a lot more manageable and feels less like homework lol

Ready Player One. You could explore how the teens in the book create their avatars to express a 'hero' version of themselves and how that limits real intimacy. For Helen especially her avatar is armour since her own mother doesn't accept her IRL.

Severance is such a fascinating novel. The pandemic sections are harrowing and disturbing, but Ma’s exploration of the protagonist’s life before the pandemic is equally as upsetting and unnervingly relatable for those of us who work office jobs. Such a brilliant satire on consumerism and capitalism. It’s not a perfect novel, I thought the middle dragged quite a bit, but I couldn’t tear myself away from the final 70ish pages. Such a maddening ending! Happy reading! Good luck with finals! Sending hugs! 📚❤️
