The Boom - Tinsagu nu Hana

In 1994 The Boom headlined an event called Club Asia at the Nippon Budokan. There were several guests including Okinawa's Yoriko Ganeko, Singapore's Dick Lee, Maribeth from the Philippines, China's Ai Jing among others. Yoriko Ganeko was part of the trio Okinawa Chans, together with with Misako Koja and Kazumi Tamaki, who toured with Ryuichi Sakamoto in 1988 on the Neogeo tour and the Beauty tour in 1989. Tinsagu Nu Hana is one of Okinawa’s most popular children’s songs, describing the duties of children to their parents.

My favorite, brings tears to my eyes every time I hear this. Spent year 1968 in Koza and Naha. I'm planning to spend my last years there.

please dont thank japan, thank okinawa instead. this is a traditional song from luchuan culture, not japanese culture. japan tried to assimilate my people, and if their efforts had worked then this music would've disappeared

てぃんさぐの花はキーが高いので男性が歌うのはキツいのかなと思って聞いてます　沖縄の歌は歴史を継承してて　後世にも残っていく歌ではないかなと思います　民謡かもしれないけど大切な歌でもありしっかり意味が込められた歌が多いので　是非残していって欲しいですね

Eh...it was really good until that "rock-n-roll" interlude at 3:33...BTW, the traditional song isn't actually about children's "duties" to their parents so much as a "poetic listing" of "life-lessons for children"...but thanks for sharing, all the same!

It’s actually about the hard work of farmers and their nails being stained red etc etc. there are a few different versions of the song too. It’s no less lovely.

ホウセンカの花は爪に染めて (沖縄地方でのおまじない) 親からの教えは肝に命じろ空の星は数えようと思えば数えられるけど、親から教えてもらった事は数えきれない夜の海で船は北極星を頼りに走っているが、私を産んでくれた親は私を頼りにしている。北極星は沖縄の言葉で「子の方星:にぬふぁぶし」と言いうのも面白いです。
