I just got mine and share the exact same thoughts as you. But they don't seem to make lug soles on that last, for whatever reason.

I'm very surprised to hear these don't have any sort of heel counter at all. Is the center stitching from the inside in the area of ​​the heel really not covered? I think that's a weak point. Firstly, the seam will chafe on the heel and secondly, it will chafe over time. I also don't understand why no real leather mid sole is used. Millions of cows are slaughtered every day - leather can't be that expensive be right? Greetings Robby

These boots use an external heel counter, which you can see being installed from 4:00 - 4:50. Spot the white thermoform layer being glued to the counter, and then sandwiched between the counter and boot shaft. Although this leaves the internal stitching uncovered, in my experience internal heel counters can themselves cause rubbing of the Achilles along the edge of the counter. The thickness of the internal counter’s leather edge is more significant than the stitching of the external counter. Both approaches are respectable ways to build boots. My preference is for external counters, for the reasons stated. Also, it is easier to (if necessary) cover the stitching line with moleskin tape than it is to try and remedy an uncomfortable internal counter.

Also if you like leather mid soles (don’t we all!) I think you can arrange that via custom order. Make an excellent boot even better!

Hi Hyatt, all Jim Green boots are true to fit using the Brannock device and possess an EE width. The more roomy toe box in our range the STC. This is a wide fit and offers a roomy and rounded toe box (more room above the toes). This last, we use on our African Ranger, Vellie, and Outback Slip On for example 💪

I would also be very interested in this depending on the size of the toe cap, I have Flintstone toes lol.

Hello, that was exactly my thought. That's the only thing I don't like about the shoe at all. This wide white seam can cause chafing on the heel over time and wear and tear on the seam. Why isn't there a leather cover there. What is it like experience of people who have the shoe. What does the manufacturer say about it?

And yes there is a shank in the sole you can see it in the video (minute) 12:11 for a short time. Robby

I actually bought a pair of these. Best boot I’ve ever had. Am buying another pair to rotate them. I think a counter cover would be nice, but I haven’t really noticed the lack of one.
