World War I was one of the most brutal battles in all of history, and it's devastation sent major ripples across the entire globe while changing the power dynamics for every country across Earth. Some armies were insanely understaffed and had to resort to using young boys to grow up on the battlefield to help win the war! Check out today's crazy video about soldiers barely teenagers taking up arms against the Germans in this epic war story!

“We're no longer young men. We've lost any desire to conquer the world. We are refugees. We are fleeing from ourselves. From our lives. We were eighteen years old, and we had just begun to love the world and to love being in it; but we had to shoot at it. The first shell to land went straight for our hearts. We've been cut off from real action, from getting on, from progress. We don't believe in those things any more; we believe in the war.” ― Erich Maria Remarque, All Quiet on the Western Front

Isn’t it the most insane thing and almost unbelievable to think that this actually occurred - and (just about) within living memory. Such unimaginable suffering, unimaginable destruction and unimaginable bravery, unsurpassed and unequalled, before or since. An honourable and respectfully undertaken examination of some of the boy soldiers’ stories from the Great War. I enjoyed (may not be the suitable word but I’m sure you get my meaning) this video immensely, really powerful subject and one so worthy of our sincere reverence for the men who fought and died in this conflict. Long may we teach of the valour of these men, nay, kings amongst men and long may we commemorate their most noble of sacrifices. Lest we forget. I’m gonna do this though, sorry..... St. John, as a given name is actually pronounced: Sin•jun. Regardless of that, great video guys. Important events that we must continue to teach future generations about.

My grandfather signed up and shipped out underage with the Canadian Expeditionary Force. He was sent back from the front after the political action of parents across the British Empire, and like many others like him, wasn’t happy about leaving the battle front. It’s probably lucky for me and my mother that he was sent back. His brother was killed at Passchendaele in November 1917. I believe the battle you mention here is the Somme (rhymes with bomb).

My grandpa fought in the El Salvador war and soldiers picked him up from school and took him to war:( He’s alive and happy now tho:)

I can tell your comment is fake. Since the El Salvador war started in 1979 meaning that your Grandpa Was in Elementary/Middle School. So 1979-2021 meaning your grandpa is only in his 50's that's impossible for a grandpa to be that young.

What was sad was many of these boy soldiers ended up with shell shock and changed forever and faced the same punishment as adults if they leave AWOL and face charges for cowardice. The British said that if they felt old enough to enlist than they are old enough to face the consequences. Several were executed for cowardice even when 3 years too young. Some were able to get out of the army after their families fought to get them out and some were not able to get out. They thought the war would only be for a few months and not for over 4 years and thought it would be an adventure. There is a documentary on here about the 250,000 underage boy soldiers and it’s worth a watch!
