I forgot about that as well. They didn't emphasize it enough, and it did really seem like we spent three seasons building towards something that was then kinda just waved off pretty casually. I can see why the guys felt a little blindsided by it. We've always known Frenchie was bi. I think they should have spelled out how Kimiko felt a little clearer last season so that we had a clean break and went into season four EXPECTING this different dynamic.

@@terogates1 Well we waited two years for season 4 and so much happened in season 3. It's a pretty small thing to forget. I see a ton of comments of people upset at reactors who forgot that small detail and I honestly don't understand the annoyance.

That Daryl/Carol comparison is exactly what I was looking for, THANK YOU. I couldn't quite put my finger on it. They transcend romantic constructs. Platonic Soulmates are criminally underrated. BUT the first three seasons of their arc were high key misleading where I don't feel Carol/Daryl ever was.

This comparison is exactly it! They _did_ hint at them being a couple a lot, that's undenyable, even Kimiko's first appearance came right after Frenchie and MM's convo about having a romantic partner (in the car, in episode 4). It looks like they decided to backtrack on it in season 3 though, because I very clearly understood right away that they weren't going to be a couple when Kimiko told him "we're family". I remember even finding it funny, like a reverse queerbaiting (straight-baiting?).

Because Frenchie and Colling are two guys, it doen't mean is not a normal loving relationship. Any loving romantic relationship between two consenting adults is normal, what is not normal is an abusive/toxic relationship between two people, no matter what gender.

@@marcelofarah8657 you’re right, but i am specifically addressing the comments saying “frenchie and kimiko are more than lovers, they’re family,” which is a common refrain i see online wrt shipping-some ppl think rooting for a romantic relationship is somehow sullying a friendship or a familial bond, when both of those are also components of being with someone in a romantic way.

@@jaijais The problem is that there seems to be people who can't imagine that a man and a woman can have anything BUT a romantic relationship (unless they are blood related). The shipping community won't let any two people, of whatever gender, get close without insisting it's sexual. It's been a trope in TV and films for so long with writers twisting characters in unrealistic ways to make a romance happen. For those of us who like to explore all kinds of relationships it gets very tiresome and dull. However the American insistence that any non-romantic relationship is "like family" is also becoming a well-trodden phrase that would be better avoided. The term "friends" exists for a reason.

@@nomadpurple6154 of course! i also like all kinds of relationships, i’m just saying that this particular pairing is developed enough that it could also go that route, and no one could really say it’s forced. as for shipping as a concept, as long as people (both shippers and non-shippers) don’t get weird about it i think it’s just a fun thought exercise, it’s all fictional anyway (plus shipping isn’t necessarily always sexual, just as real romantic relationships don’t always involve sex).

Considering it has been shown Frenchie is bi/pan since like season 2, maybe you should take the blinders off.
