@@The1baddman Only six episodes though, lol that wasn't long at all. The episodes were later packaged as 3 2 hour movies on syndication packages for the show. Some always considered The Bradys as the official closure to the series as everyone was grown with children dealing with grown folks issues.

The issues really weren't wrapped up in the "hour," as Marcia said to Cindy at the end of the episode that she would be struggling with alcoholism for the rest of her life. Also, the subplot about building the trauma center can be seen as a "time jump" that made the "hour" last many months -- unless somehow the Brady adults could build a trauma center as fast as the Brady kids could build a clubhouse in the old series. The episode wasn't perfect, but it was poignant, as you said, and one most realistice episodes of any in the Brady franchise.

Good point and had this lasted longer, I could see this storyline coming back. We have to remember at this point in time dramas beyond Westerns and soap opera ish were the thing not like what we have in modern times. Had this came out in the late 1990s and 2000s, this could have gotten some millage on a network like the WB.

I feel Marcia’s pain in this episode. I’m similar in age to where she would’ve been here, and at a similar crossroads in life. I’m bingeing these episodes right now and I’m digging them; I honestly think the acting was really good all around. Leah Ayres kinda had impossible shoes to fill playing Marcia, but she’s very talented and I think she did a great job in the role.

A moving episode that is -- for TV and for the Brady franchise in particular --- surprisingly realistic. If you look closely, the issues really weren't wrapped up in the "hour." Marcia said to Cindy at the end of the episode that she would be struggling with alcoholism for the rest of her life. Had the series lasted longer, they may have revisited Marcia's problem in future episodes. Also, the subplot about building the trauma center can be seen as a "time jump" that made the "hour" last many months that Marcia would have struggled with alcohol abuse -- unless somehow the Brady adults could build a trauma center as fast as the Brady kids could build a clubhouse in the old series. The episode wasn't perfect, but it was poignant, as another commenter said, and one most realistic episodes of any in the Brady franchise.

@@Scottslaw It cannot score enough ever. She obviously isn't "Marcia". This whole show was some rotted pizza. Like left-wingish Mash when that series went from comedy to attempted drama-- the results in the Brady saga were really half-assed.
@GSU2004

Alcoholism never really goes away and it was very taboo at that time. With things being more woke and holistic, the storyline could have focused on her being in the AA meetings with others. It showed that problems like this do not discriminate among income lines. Marcia had everything going but she still took to the bottle which is what made this a good episode. It showed her feeling isolated, dealing with post partum after birthing children as many young mothers go through this trying to live up to their parents, siblings or friends.

Okay, hear me out on this. I'm 50 years old and have watched every episode of The Brady Bunch a billion times .... At 36:00, Wally and Carol come walking into the room where Marcia is at. They enter from the LEFT side of the point of view. However, Mike and Carol's room, which is where Marcia is in, is the first room coming up the stairs to the LEFT! So, this makes it look like they walked past the room and nonchalantly walked back into it from the other side. Anybody else getting this?

But Robert Reed approved the storyline. He had past issues with Sherwood Schwartz over storylines not being realistic enough on the original show. It was around that time All in the Family changed sitcoms with realistic issues. Reed saw the huge success Norman Lear had and wanted Schwartz to incorporate realism on the show, showing how hard it really is blending two families.

Maureen McCormick politely declined to reprise her role as Marcia Brady in the short ived 1990's CBS prime time situation comedy/drama "The Brady's"-hence-Leah Ayers "won" the role. One of the reasons for the early demise of this series was CBS airing it at 8:00 P.M. Central Time-opposite ABC's young family comedies "Full House" and "Family Matters"-which-ironically-was a then "modern" day television incarnation of what the ORIGINAL "Brady Bunch: series on ABC (1969-1974) WAS.

Actually, if you watch the measles episode, you can see Mike mixing a martini. And when the great grandparents visit, they drink sherry. In the pilot, Carol suggests that Mike take a tranquilizer, and then they have champagne.

There is only one Marcia.,they could have had,Marcia doing missionary work,or doing something ,which explains her absence . This wasn’t a soap opera ,where they can replace ,and no one cares . I never cared for the Jan,or the Cindy replacements. We grew up with Maureen,Eve,and Susan .

Awesome i guess. But sobriety is not a virtue for those without a struggle. It is in the achievement over struggle to maintain sobriety that sobriety becomes a virtue. My mother has had one drink in her whole and wears her lack of struggle like a badge of honor ... but it doesn't make her virtuous. My sister who has struggled with addictions has overcome all odds and her sobriety is a virtuous indeed.

WOW, even coming before Miss America didn't give this show a boost. Even the 1985 pageant gave Gimme A Break and 227's premiere a boost in numbers which 227 was able to hold on to. CBS should have given this show another season to catch on. I would have loved to see them address Robert Reed's illness into the storyline as he would sadly end up dying in 1992. It would have been interesting to see the family react and cope with Mike's death.
@dhenderson1810
@dhenderson1810 Жыл бұрын
I'm surprised that Robert Reed was doing the show anyway, as he hated the show, and wanted to leave. He didn't do the last episode of "The Brady Bunch" because he was fired, and if it had gone the next season, Mike was going to be "killed off" to explain his absence. I think I heard that Sherwood Schwartz has little involvement in this, so maybe that is why Robert Reed (who hated Schwartz, and the feeling was mutual) agreed to come back.
@GSU2004
@GSU2004 Жыл бұрын
@@dhenderson1810 I was thinking that too but Reed did do some later Brady specials over the years. He also knew he was dying so he probably did this is a silent public goodbye to his fans. Reed kept his illness a secret from everyone, the cast would only knew when he was sitting waiting to die. I remember Florence Henderson admitted that Robert was fiercely private and didn't want attention as he wanted to die in peace. She lamented on how unhappy he was over the decades given his issues with his homosexuality. He always kept a good face for the children and public but when he was around friends, it would show sadly.
