How would Carol cope, if Alice did leave, she might have to bit of housework, and do the grocery shopping, and she would have no time for her needle work, and sitting around doing nothing which takes up a lot of her time. But be fair to Carol she did help Alice in the kitchen at meal times, and help Alice with the grocery shopping, only because Alice couldn't drive.😊😊😊

Taking care of 6 kids is literally a full time job. There were 6 of us kids, and our mom was always on the go. If we would have had the money, she would have definitely gotten a maid.

And no one in any era would watch a TV show about an attractive woman being forced to spend all day cleaning up for six children, three of whom aren’t hers, because she fell in love with their father. It’s a freaking television show, people. Alice was necessary so that Carol wasn’t a drudge.

Whenever I watch the first season of The B. Bunch, I get a kick out of how the character of Carol Brady was portrayed in such a formal way by Henderson compared to other seasons. As the seasons go by, you'll notice the characterization of Mrs. Brady becomes more and more of that of a middle class suburban mom that everybody wanted. The first season Mrs. Brady seemed a little too upper-class and contrived. By the 5th season, Henderson had the character of Carol Brady absolutely mastered. Rest in peace, Flo!
@alaricabercrombie26929 ай бұрын
I absolutely agree 👍
@landreaulover9 ай бұрын
That could also be attributed to the 1960s when the show debuted to the 1970s where the show ended. The 60s were far more formal in comparison.
@TVHouseHistorian9 ай бұрын
@@landreaulover could be, but we’re talking about the late 1960’s. When scenes for the show were shot in 1968, the United States was experiencing tremendous social turbulence, and the hippy movement was in full swing. “DOWN WITH THE ESTABLISHMENT!” Was the phrase of the day for the countercultural movement, so loud psychedelic patterns on clothing were becoming the norm. The Brady Bunch, even at that time, was a complete throwback to the quieter, more conservative times of the 1950’s, and the Brady costumes reflected that.
@landreaulover9 ай бұрын
@@TVHouseHistorian Yes, I agree. I think the first season was an attempt to capture the early 60s vibe. The show certainly didn't reflect the turbulence of the late 60s -- by design. That would have made an awkward family TV show. But I think the actors leaning into the styles of the 70s is probably what had the greatest effect on how the characters were presented.

A sad fact regarding this TV show: The divorce rates was going through the roof in America during the 5 years this show was on. So many children were experiencing family fragmentation and broken homes that the producers of this show kept receiving letters from children asking if they could come and live with the Brady Family because their own families were so unhappy. The studio received so many such letters that eventually they had to create a form letter to send to these children in response. Fact.

Well, it´s like Disney princesses that marry the blue prince. The problem with this shows is that they aren´t real. It is much better to put a show with real problems to be solved so that people can feel identified. I am happy I didn´t know this show when I was a kid, because it is too silly and irreal, everything is perfect, the parents are perfect and the kids are too cute, this is not real life at all. I´ts like a Disney cartoon.
@jenniferdaniel11044 ай бұрын
I wasn't from a broken home, but my mother had severe depression and dad was seldom home. I was the same age as Cindy, and I wanted to be a Brady so badly. Their home was always happy and filled with caring adults. I know it's not realistic, but the Brady kids even said they wish they were a Brady! Life was just so wonderful.

Evil family? They took her to Hawaii, the Grand Canyon, King's Island Amusement Park, on a camping trip, let her perform as the evil queen in a school play, threw an engagement party for her and her boyfriend, and gave her room and board rent free. Doesn't sound like an evil family to me. Alice had it made.
@mikep53353 ай бұрын
@@josebro352 yeah but she was like a Stepford Wife. Always being a servant 24/7. Them dragging her along everywhere like she's their pet or something...Even when they branched out and did their own Brady Bunch Variety Hour show years later, they dragged her along; making her wear her that awful blue maid's uniform on stage with them as they performed! Poor Alice! I mean they're all dressed up in these fancy tuxedos and ballroom gowns, and she's standing there next to them, wearing that horrible old blue maid uniform! Making her look like garbage by comparison! How cruel! I mean she's like a prisoner! And she always has to wear that horrible blue uniform like 90% of the time for the rest of her life...And the kids do horrible things to her, like ganging up on her and giving her the cold shoulder that one time, (in the Goodbye Alice Hello Episode); and also leaving their Chinese Checkers on the floor, which she tripped over and wound up twisting her ankle, (in The Big Sprain Episode), and rigging the house with all those demonic decorations and almost giving her a heart attack, (in the Fright Night episode); and then Cindy viciously tried to sabotage her relationship with Sam that time, blabbing alot of misinformation to him on the phone, causing him to stand Alice up in The Tattle-Tale episode. And Marcia also unfairly accused her of trashing her campaign slogans in the Vote for Brady episode...And then there was that time in the Welcome Aboard episode when they all viciously threw pies in her face. So vicious. And she's a grown woman, and she can't even drive! She has to have Mrs. Brady drive her to the bus stop! She wasn't even allowed to call Carol and Mike by their first names; making her use the more formal, "Mr. and Mrs. Brady"... Even years later, after she retired, and came back to visit in the Very Brady Christmas episode, she's still calling them Mr and Mrs Brady. And she's still doing clean up duties for them in that episode, even though she doesn't work for them anymore, and they're not paying her! Still walking around, acting like a servant; this sad old woman who doesn't know anything else! How terrible. She tries to quit twice and then they all conspire to bring her back into their little family-prison they have set up for her. I mean if she wants to quit, let her quit for Godsakes! Don't go stalking her at her new waitress job at that diner and harass her! Haven't they done enough! Leave the poor woman alone!
