In this video we're going to look at Shure's brand new MoveMic! The Shure MoveMic is a great wireless microphone to directly compete with the likes of the Rode Wireless Go and DJI Mic.

Really great testing here! I was playing with a pair of movemics recently and found I got a lot better results tweaking the settings a bit away from the factory settings, which were set to a 'speech' preset with some EQ presence stuff, high pass filter at 75Hz, gain set to +30dB, compression set to 'light', and noise reduction on. I changed to the 'flat' preset with no EQ adjustment, no filter, no noise reduction, no high pass, and gain set to 15dB with my camera preamps set to about 65%to bring the signal up to a better level, and was fairly impressed with how much better it sounded compared to the out-of-the-box settings. I'm curious what settings might have been used in this video, as it sounds like the stock settings on mine did before I adjusted anything. Great little mics with a lot of functionality for, as you said, a handful of popular use cases.

By limiting phone use to Shure's video app, this system just went instantly from "MUST HAVE" to "NO SALE". Everything else about this item is overwhelmingly positive but this seemingly arbitrary choice on Shure's part makes this microphone system irrelevant for phone video. There's no way I'm going to compromise my video capabilities in favour of this system. For example, does the Shure app support h.265 Apple Log? Does it support the Blackmagic app? Or Cinema P3? If no, no go. DJI can do a receiverless phone system that doesn't need a proprietary video app, why can't Shure? Excellent video, by the way. Thanks!

Doesn't DJI require one to register an account with them to use their devices?
@bmroozia

If the DJI uses something like Bluetooth HFP communication direct-to-phone it's going to be band limited, which in short means your not getting any audio above 8kHz, but you can use it with more apps. Opening up the full 20-20kHz band might require a custom app...

Sound is very good but far too expensive for the average phone blogger. I use a Fulaim X5 The windmuffs failed when on the yacht basin. They need proper deadcats.

I liked the Shure MoveMic when inside, it sounded very clear versus the Rode. Out side it sounds kind of boxier. But the noise reduction is very good! The phones mic sounds louder outside but you can hear everything. I like the Shure for sure!

@@j.m.7989If you are considering this mic, I'd also look at the Hollyland M2. It's smaller and cheaper but it doesn't connect directly to your phone through bluetooth. If you need internal recording, then Rode Wireless Pro or DJI mic 2. If you only need internal recording, consider lavalier mic recorders like Zoom F2 or Tascam DR-10L Pro. This Shure mic is good specifically for people who want something small and don't want to deal with a receiver and don't need internal recording and don't care about price.

Hey Adrian. Thanks for the review. I recently purchased the DJI Mic2 - not knowing Shure had something like this in the wings - and have struggled a bit getting a clear sound from the Mic2. I’ve seen a few reviews now of the MoveMic and the sound, out of the box, seems to have far better clarity. Have you had a chance to compare the two? Also, I have found I’ve had to boost sound levels on the Mic2 up a fair bit just to glee out with my MV7. Did you have to do much in post with the MoveMic sound files?

The fact I could not use this with an app such as BlackMagic would definitely put me off buying this mic although its form factor is good. What always surprises me is there is no one that can touch the PicoMic for microphone size and it is so easy to use with camera or iPhone. I always have one of my two kits with me as I pop on the mic which is so small you hardly notice it and plug in the receiver and I am ready to go. I have just got back from filming in India and used for all the interviews.
