Was engine 6 stationed at station 11? Then got its own firehouse?

The visiting captain was either drunk or completely full of shit. The information you got from him was wrong. Nobody in the fdny would agree with what he said. Or was he actually from the nypd as you said?

I'm pretty sure E6 had to move for a bit when they accidentally burned there own damn station down. They left the stove on while they went on a call. Though that might have happened after this call I'm not sure.

'We don't want to lose any firefighters over a vacant building'? A visiting NYPD Captain visited our brigade in the late 60's and shocked those attending his presentation when he stated that the loss of up to THREE, yes 3, men was acceptable in a major building fire!!! It was an attitude that spoke volumes about their firefighting methods. To lose a single man n the UK was deemed a catastrophic event and was closely analysed to discover what went wrong so safety could be improved even more. The US blase attitude to firefighter safety still continues to this day and will continue until firefighter safety is taken seriously with strict BA entry control, set search procedures using guide lines and the allocation of BA firefighter rescue teams rigged at entry control points ready to be despatched at due exit times BEFORE it comes a fully declared emergency. It's too late once their air has run out. That visiting Captain was more than a bit embarrassed by some of the questions put to him regarding their archaic attitude. It's not about being BRAVE, that's a given for any firefighter, it's about accepting you need to improve to eliminate deaths in firefighting. If your dept has a high number of firefighter deaths it doesn't indicate how brave you are it is a massive red flag telling you your methods are unduly dangerous and need improving. A dead firefighter is not a statistic to be proud of. Pride in the memory of the person but not the statistic.

Steven Booth I’m just going to say this once it’s a quote that fdny firefighter said you can do everything right and still you get hurt or killed simply that It’s a dangerous profession the best way we can mitigate it is by training Keep that in mind before you post anything.

4 gen of union fireman in my family and having experienced LODD in my dept , over 5000 firemen showed up at the funeral. US fireman takes LODD very serious . There is nothing blase about a fireman in the US dying in the line of duty.Just because a Capt in New York in the 60's made that comment doesn't mean it was true. You should take the time to to understand what is like to be a Fireman in the United States. The amount of discussion and training that occurs after a LODD last a lifetime. Also when you become a fireman you begin to understand that death and injury is part of the job. But don't ever thing for a moment that we don't care and to this day I am haunted by my brothers deaths. Read what Gary Stadler said below, I think that it my help you understand.
