Hi there, and welcome to Nostalgia Hit. In today's video, we look back at the cast of the 1985 teen film, The Breakfast Club. Where five high school students, all different stereotypes, from different backgrounds, meet in detention and discover how they have a lot more in common than they thought. Written, directed, and produced by John Hughes, with a budget of $1 million dollars, The Breakfast Club went on to gross over $51 million and receive much critical acclaim. Actually, Brian was in detention because he had brought a starter pistol/flare gun to school and it accidentally went off in his locker, I believe causing the contents to catch fire.

I remember being really surprised at Carl the janitor’s confession to the kids about how he is “the eyes and ears of the school”. I had never really thought about what they think or observe about the students and staff. What a cool supporting role and great addition to the cast. Glad you included him and Mr. Vernon.

Lol tbh people in my grade really have been able to relate to this movie and sure some things change but some things don’t either; us teens still have that need to talk, be accepted, etc, just as John Hughes intended this film to be a timeless one.

My two daughters are in 6th and 7th grade. I’ve introduced them to so many great 80’s movie, including this one. This is a great movie, because kids can relate and say, hey! So it’s not just me. Everybody’s got issues.

I had the pleasure of meeting John Kapelos in the summer of 1990 when he came to Nova Scotia to act in the film THE BRUCE CURTIS STORY. He told me many wonderful stories about working on THE BREAKFAST CLUB, amongst other films, especially the fact that Rick Moranis had originally been cast in the role of the janitor, but didn't get along with director John Hughes, so Kapelos got a phone call on a Sunday asking if he wanted to take over the part, and was on-set the next day. Ironically, it was filmed at the very high school Kapelos had attended, which is why his photo is seen at the beginning of the movie. A very nice person!

It was a fantastic time to be alive! I was in my teen years and I was so happy during this time! We went to a concert almost every week! Rush, Ozzy, Def Leopard,Stevie Nick’s,The Car’s, StacyQ,Motley Crew,April Wine, Jermaine Stewart, Cyndi Lauper the list went on and on! Sneaking into Disco’s and Movies out the ass lol! Would never have traded it for the world!

Feel the same! It seemed like we were going to a concert every week back then. Graduated in 86. I can still remember sitting in the movie theater watching this. There were around eight of us and after we all piled into her tiny Toyota. Such awesome memories!

There will never be movies like this again. With all this cancel culture and WOKE movement....The 80s was a great time to grow up...I was in my 20s in the 80s and it was the best years of my life. I really wish I could go back in time!

I used to play with my friends in the street....we always had a person to watch for cars....when one was coming up the block..."CAR" would be shouted and we would scramble out of the street and wait for the car to pass. We played football.....and we were too poor to buy a football.....(but we didn't know we were poor LOL) Our football was rolled up newspaper with duct tape. Oh the games, skellizes, marbles, jump-rope, tag, or we just sat on somone's stoop and gossiped about most important things back then.....A movie with friends on a Friday night then ice-cream shop (If we saved enough from our allowance, Kids today have it way too easy) I babysat to get money and looked for little odd jobs here and there to earn money. Gosh, I am with you @captainscentsible39 we need to get Sheldon to build us a time machine and find the fountain of youth....I can't run like I did in those days anymore. But what a glorious time it was in the 80s. Oh how I loved the 80's.

Im actually Molly's age and I can tell you back in the 80's when this movie came out, we LOVED it. It was completely relatable to those of us that were in high school at the time. Ahhhh memories of the good o'l days of the 80's. No cell phones, no school shootings, no 911, no mass shootings. I feel bad for kids these days, its a terrible time to be a young person today. Im thankful my youth happened when it did.

I’m so happy I grew up in the 80s with all these actors and actresses! John Hughes made all my favorite movies. One that best describes me is Brainiac. I love Molly she was so beautiful then and she still is!

I really liked Molly Ringwald. Being a red head myself, I used to peroxide bleach my hair, to hide the colour at school. Molly really gave inspiration and beauty to red hair being acceptable on girls/women. I mean in the 80's you stood out like a sore thumb being red and were made to feel ugly. It knocked your confidence a lot. At school I was an Introvert/Rebellious.

The narrator said that nobody knows what Anthony Michael Hall's character, Brian Johnson did to warrant detention. WROOOONG. I've seen Breakfast Club several hundred times, and I can tell you for certain that Johnson brought a flare gun to school (ostensibly to commit suicide for failing Shop Class). Before he could try to harm himself, the gun accidentally discharged inside his locker, destroying school property and a ceramic elephant that was supposed to have served as a working lamp. Brian: "The fuc@ing elephant was destroyed."

Stay in the middle of the crowd and line, don't be in the front and don't be last, or in the back. That is how you become unnoticed in military boot camp. Words of advice pass to me by my father, I suppose it would work the same way in high school

Molly Ringwald is also a fabulous singer. I saw her in concert a few years back & bought her cd. My Favorite Character is John Bender. I watch a movie marathon with the following films (they pretty much hit the whole lifespan): The Breakfast Club (the teens) St. Elmo's Fire (the twenties) The Big Chill (the thirties to forties) The Cemetary Club (the fifties to sixties)

When asked to describe who I was, in High School, have to say I was ALL of them. The final 'paper' was the point of the story and it describes my experience. I was also true friends with Brainiacs, Athletes, Princesses, Rogues and Introverts, and I was all of those things, never fitting any one mold. That's what makes the teenage years so chaotic and amazing.

I’m 58 now.I’m confused because apparently our generation is supposed to be ‘woke’.According to 2022 standards we’re supposed to see a rape scene in ‘16 Candles’ between the Geek and Carolyn,Jake’s girlfriend.I never interpreted their scenes that way! Now,Bender is a bully who sexually harasses Claire throughout ‘The Breakfast Club.’I never interpreted his character that way. THIS WOKE STUFF MAKES ME SAD!

I was actually in my junior yr of high school when this movie hit the theaters. I was definitely a jock but I related to & had friends in ALL five categories, believe it or not. We chose Simple Mind's "Don't You(Forget About Me), as our theme for our high school graduating class (1986).

I kept begging my teenage daughter to watch this movie with me and she finally did. When it ended she said it was ok but didn’t get why I thought so much of it. I told her because it represented that even though they were five very different kids, they were more alike then anyone thought and even though they could be friends in the right setting, the peer pressures of fitting in made it impossible. I told her that was my experience in high school and what life was like in a typical high school.

Yeah, the final question asked encapsulates the magic of this movie. Hughes nailed us as a generation, and every last ONE of us was one of these characters. It doesn't matter which one was me. I am 53, and I no longer wear my letter jacket...haha. But I do still HAVE that letter jacket.

Most of them were young adults. Judd was 25 when the movie was released, Ally and Emilio were 22 i believe. AMH and Molly were the only teens (i think both of them were 16)

That is "any minute", of every hour, of every day, of week, of every month of every year. When you went to bed, or got on the bus for school, or to go home, or studied for a test the next day, There was _no reason to be certain_ you and everything you held dear would not be *burned away* in the next day or two, nor even in the next _hour!_ ☹️

I remember vividly seeing this movie in a theater in Peoria, Illinois. I'm right between Judd Nelson and Emilio Estevez in age. Damn scary how fast time goes by. Its seems like maybe 15-20 years ago, not 37.

I was a child of the 60's and 70's but even at my current age, I love the entire decade of the 80's. I "grew up" in the 80's. Got divorced, got me a job where I was making some decent bucks, got me my own apartment and furniture, and a car, etc. MY life. My choices. My screw-ups. I loved it all!!! I still to this day have The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Less than Zero (I know it's not part of the Brat Pack but it's a great movie), and I count St. Elmo's Fire, too. I'm just a kid at heart.

I graduated high-school in 1980 and was still in college when this came out so I can definitely relate. It was an absolute great time to grow up. I would say I was mostly aligned to the jock. I always wondered why Hughes didn’t add one more character which is prevalent in all high schools; “the class clown” which I could also relate to. Every class has one. What do you think? Should Hughes have had a class clown?
