Another interesting fact: John Hughes originally gave the script of John Bender to John Cusack. At that point, Emilio Estevez, Ally Sheedy, Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall had already been selected for their parts. John Hughes was having serious difficulty finding the actor with the right look for the part of the rebellious John Bender, so he gave John Cusack the script out of extreme reluctance. Then right before production was about to begin, as fate would have it, Judd Nelson walked into the North Maine High School library dressed the same way he did in the movie. John Hughes took one look at him and knew immediately that he found his man! He took the script of John Bender away from John Cusack and gave it to Judd Nelson. At first, John Cusack couldn't figure out why he was suddenly being disregarded, and John Hughes then openly told him it was nothing personal but that he didn't look threatening enough. That was a very wise move on behalf of John Hughes! ~Dutch

Dude seriously if they did more sequels that would've been awesome. I always wondered after the movie ended where they ended up after high school (in the story line of course)

Believe it or not all of the main characters were a year younger than what's shown in the video. Molly Ringwald was 16, Judd Nelson was 24, Ally Sheedy was 21, Emilio Estevez was 21 and turned 22 and Anthony Micheal Hall was only 15 and turned 16 during filming.

Most impressed by Hall's charity. There's hardly a greater gift to give someone than literacy.

Inclusion of the reference to Ally Sheedy's substance addiction seemed a bizarre and gratuitous non sequitur.

And, for what it's worth, while Maine South High School is indeed located in Park Ridge, Maine North was not. It was located in Des Plaines, Illinois.

I have one question - in the scene where Judd Nelso returns to class, and is not supposed to be there, Paul Gleason is heard exiting his office. Judds hides under a desk and has full view of Molly Ringwald's undies. Was this deliberate?

You ever noticed how in 80s and 90s productions they kinda tend to have a cast of 5 teens, 3 of them dudes and 2 chicks so consequently there's always that one 3rd wheel i.e Brian Johnson. On a somewhat related note- I was thinking if I could get to be one of those dudes who actually gets a gf, I'd want it to be Ally pre makeover in fact. As freaky as she is, I found her intensely beautiful. I guess this comes back to 80s camera technology to a degree which kinda made people's physical faults less obvious- fuck u hi-def. Seeing her a few decades later...meh. Seriously you know cuz she just seemed so radiant and perfect. Her eating habits were pretty much all the red flag I needed but I wanted to believe...so bad...that now (or then since it was technically the 80s) could last forever. This is a conveniant argument for personality over looks ooooooooor infidelity. I dunno anymore.

i dunno. she really was gorgeous somehow. i don't understand how anybody at the time thought she looked better post makeover. the 80s were supposed to be a time of alternative fashion were they not?

I walked out of this movie. It does not take much intelligence to talk and act like an idiot. That is why it only took him two days to write the script.
HOW DID HE WIN? 😱
