Time to build up the HO Scale Brewery Flat, for the north shore SRY rail line, with Boomer on the Annacis Island location. This is part one of a Vlog style build tutorial. Music: All I've Ever Felt All At

“Gack” - yep, learned something new today. Definitely more than what Walthers will give you for size in a similar style kit (both height and length), already looks more appropriate for a model railroad even if it’s just a wood plank with pencil lines!

I think prototype warehouses look good if they don't dominate the scene too much. Scratching one says I'm the sole owner of one as well . . . lol. . . . and why not? . . . It's your railroad at the end of the day, make it unique! Cheers.

As an artist, photographer, it’s nice to hear someone else talking about composition in modeling as well as compressing and distorting distance to “frame the shot” from the observer’s viewpoint. This is a crucial element of scale modeling that’s often overlooked.
@boomerdiorama2 жыл бұрын
Yes you are correct. All the elements that one puts into practice is the privilege of the modeler. Cheers ~ Boomer.

A superb lesson on how to use compression to great effect. Making the warehouse a disused building is a nice change, cause I'm always led to believe that adding industries makes for more interest, but the opposite can be said for River Road. Interesting upload Boomer. All the best. Brian @ The Angels

Great discussion on how you are planning the brewery model. I notice that the turnout switch stand would be right where the loading dock in the third panel is. Would you consider moving it to the other side of the track thus putting it on the same side of the track as the next switch down the line so the brakeman/conductor could ride the same side of the car throwing both turnouts without having to cross over the tracks behind the car. "Safety first"
@boomerdiorama2 жыл бұрын
Maybe. Problem is, I already moved the bay door one panel down. Thanks for bringing it up though. I move quick these days. ;-)
@modelfxaustralia89632 жыл бұрын
Just thinking, if you wanted to model the abandoned brewery siding why not run some code 40 from the edge of the layout along the front left to right - does not have to be connected to the trackwork but visually state that the lead is longer than what we are allowed see and the siding is connected in the never-never. It's for the love of the leaves and concrete
@boomerdiorama2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that very same idea. I only laid dirt down there lightly because I needed to see how the width panned out. I will probably lay down a hint of track as you implied Thank You! Cheers! ~ Boomer. ;-)

Building flats are the best subject to start scratch building with. Essentially, they are "relief" flats. A door, a window, a set of stairs, etc, which don't require much scrutiny. Almost anything goes. Cheers.

@boomerdiorama2 жыл бұрын

I say sometimes, being a layout builder is like those old Choose Your Own Adventure books I read as a kid, but it’s Choose Your Own Compromise. We all must make compromises, and which we choose, and how effectively we pull them off often defines how successful our layout effort will be. If one is a structure or diorama modeler that may not be true, or as true. But anyone tackling the scale of a functional layout, especially a meaningfully operational one, will surely be required to choose which compromises one can live with. To each his own of course… just my rationale and $0.02… and all the best!
@peterainsworth84662 жыл бұрын
Thanks Andy. Very true. I'm finding myself attracted to immersive diorama style layouts like Boomer's and way less attracted to enormous operations layouts. Mine is based on a yard that handles sugar, cement, sleepers (ties) and power poles. I've since ditched modelling three of those and am just focussing on the sugar mill in the spirit of Boomer's immersive experience.

I look forward to seeing you build that brewery. All those details will look awesome. But a thought occurred to me. Why not use artistic license and "reactivate" the brewery? It would make for some interesting switching operations and traffic.
@boomerdiorama2 жыл бұрын
I could but two problems exist. 1. I don't have adequate "right-of-way" due to lateral compression. 2. I don't have room for a switch lead due to longitude compression.😁

@boomerdiorama2 жыл бұрын
@@modelfxaustralia8963 If you mean "road" crossing, not in the traditional sense (yet). The barge approach is a paved crossing for commercial vehicles onto the barge slip. The slip does not only accommodate rail service. It also serves vehicles as well. If I rebuild the "Glover Road" crossing on module "C", with the grain elevator, then there will be a road crossing as you indicated. Cheers.😁
