When "Pet Sounds" was released in May 1966, the album was a critical and commercial failure in the States. In the UK, however, the album got excellent reviews and it reached number 2 on the albums charts, remaining on the Top 10 for six months. Rolling Stones' manager was deeply impressed by the record and he was determined to release the British answer to Pet Sounds. This is the story of how Andrew Oldham teamed up with Del Shannon to record the "British Answer to Pet Sounds".
