What is it about the bronze serpent account (Number 21:4-9) that made it the ideal example of the “lifting up” of Jesus? How is Nicodemus the representative Israelite? What is the dual meaning of the Greek verb “lift up”? How does the Greek translation of Isaiah 52:13 provide the background for John 3? And, in the famous John 3:16 passage, did God love the world “so much” or “in this way”? ‪@chadbird1517‬ explores all these questions in this week’s episode of “Reading the Gospels through Hebrew Eyes” as he focuses on John 3:14-16.

Chad, thanks for reminding us that when we teach, we need to take time to familiarize our hearers with passages of Scripture that they may not be familiar with. It's easy (and dicey) to assume that everyone knows where we are when we step off into a passage. Wonderful stuff today. Hoping to meet you in Michigan next weekend.

Jesus was crucified Wed. April 12 then rose three days and three nights later. Read the bible. Study Jewish culture. Stop celebrating the pagan festival of "Ishtar" (Easter), an invention of the demonic Roman Catholic cult.

he is not the serpent and that is not the point of his reference - the word for lifting up can also mean to exalt or elevate so the context can inform us WHERE this exalting or elevating takes place - it wasn't about the cross - it was about the very heavens that are mentioned twice in John 3:13 ....further to that the same root word is used in both Acts 2:33 & 5:31 to indicate the location where this exaltation occurs which is 'at the right hand of God' If you understand the literal high priesthood of messiah and the location of that priesthood then this makes far more sense than a metaphorical "seeing Jesus on the cross"....very few people actually saw that and clearly not all of them believed and were drawn to him whereas all can come to him for forgiveness and ultimately be saved on the day of the first resurrection

I am trying to figure out the term ‘fiery serpents’. It seems to be the same Hebrew word that is used in Isaiah 6. Is it a fiery serpent that declares “Holy, Holy, Holy.........”?

The Hebrew word commonly translated in Numbers 21 as "fiery" (and sometimes just transliterated as "seraph") is שָׂרַ⁠‬ף (saraph). The verb means "to burn" and thus the translation "fiery." This root word is the basis of the seraphim of Isaiah 6. Many scholars believe the seraphim to be winged serpents, linked to the Egyptian griffin or Uraeus serpent. This view has not gone unchallenged, however. In the entry of the Theological Dictionary of the OT on this Hebrew word, the author states that "At least according to the book of Isaiah, the seraphim need not have had the form of a serpent." Indeed, the only physical description we have of them speaks of their hands, feet, wings, and face, which is suggestive of a human-type form, such as some of the humanoid beings in Ezekiel who bear the throne of YHWH. Back in Numbers 21, the seraph is certainly linked with the serpents, but how is uncertain.

The tribe of Dan was last in the marching order. Rear Guard . Dog soldiers . Sacrificial Lambs 🔥 Snake on a pole . Jesus ,, type . Dan displayed the banner of the Serpent and an Eagle . All of Israel knew who got left behind when in retreat . The snake represented salvation . Yes look to Jesus etc. Now last is first .

The way I see it nico was being a smarty pants. He was pharisees, a ruler, obviously he knows he cant be born again through the womb. I met a man like that recently, instead of just asking because he is proudful and im.a female He likes to pick at my brain by suggesting, throwing it our there, seeing what i will say. Yea, same guy uninvites me on sunday because he claims i wouldn't like his topic. 😂 Crazy right? Have you ever been uninvited to church by the teacher. Im like thinking are you sure i should come, maybe you like to convince me otherwise. Same man said GOD STOP TALKING TO PEOPLE 2000 YEARS AGO. IM THINKING WELL THEN WHO WAS I SPEAKING TOO ON MY knees this morning. I have never heard of anybody telling people dont show up and god dont speak.
