For a very long time I've been meaning to recommend the song "Greenfields" by the Brothers Four. It is a hauntingly beautiful song. The guys sure knew how to harmonize! Please react to it, I think you'll love it!

I remember this song but not this version. I think I heard Andy Williams singing it. It’s beautiful and I imagine this is the original. Great request and reaction. Thanks Harri and Craig 🌺✌️

I just got a flashback from a past era when you said Andy Williams. I immediately thought of him introducing The Osmond family, and the Jackson 5, and of course him singing Moon River. Hadn’t thought of him for years

It is a beautiful song. Brings back many memories of childhood and now the beauty of aging.

Love their version of this song the Best! There is footage of them in the 2000's on PBS and I think they sounded better even that much later.

The Folk sound of my early childhood. I was impatient with this sound because I wanted modern music on tv, but it always got me . I just wouldn’t admit it 😀

beautiful rendition of the song from the off-Broadway production of The Fantasticks sung by Jerry Orbach 1962

A very haunting but a very beautiful song. Many artists sang this song by none so fine as they.

Gorgeous song. Makes me think of my grandparents and parents who aren't around any more. Bittersweet due to the beauty of the song, and the wistfulness of remembering.

Try To Remember and Greenfields are part of the soundtrack of my childhood - I was born in the early 1960s. This was the style of music that my mother especially enjoyed. Considered generic and bland back in the seventies, yet still immensely enjoyable to hear now. Just like the lyrics encourage, it brings back beautiful memories of home.

When you said the song was "fantastic", you really hit the nail on the head! It was the most memorable song from the record-breaking musical, "The Fantasticks"!

I remember this song from when I was in elementary school in New York and the show the Fantasticks was playing . It’s got nostalgia written all over it.

Harri, I love your reactions. I'm older than you and can remember hearing this song. Don't know if it was on the radio or on my dad's stereo.

I was five years old when this came out. At that age I didn't understand the meaning of the lyrics, but the tone & tune would make me cry.

Wow! I can't believe you reviewed The Brothers Four. I remember playing their albums in second grade and wore them out over the years. They are the most amazing group!! Love them still and I am an old lady now. Thankful my family exposed me to their music.

Great song! The Brothers Four were an American folk singing group formed in 1957. They had some great songs such as "Greenfields", "The Green Leaves Of Summer", "This Land Is Your Land," "Yellow Bird," "Where Have All The Flowers Gone," "Shenandoah", "500 Miles" etc.

My parents had Brothers 4 albums so it's a total blast from the past for me. They have some very pretty music and many funny tunes as well.

This song is from The Fantasticks, which during its time was the longest running show on Broadway. You should try to find Jerry Orbach's version, he sang it in the stage production.

I remember being a young child in the late 60's and there was an album of "The Brothers Four" in the storage drawer of the family stereo. I remember hearing it as a kid. My mother past away last year at the age of 90, and when going through the things there in the long time family home I looked inside and there it still was after all these years still in the same storage drawer of that old cabinet style stereo/turntable. This was just a month ago that I saw it, and brought back a memory of my youth. I think I might just have to fire up that old turntable and listen to it now.

I empathise, though older. The one that stood out for me from a similar Stereogram storage was my Father's LP of Dave Brubeck - Time Out. The liner notes I read whilst listening to it did more for my musical education than anything from school or church. I wasn't allowed to pull two of the four speakers out and put them in another cabinet for better stereo separation. If you wanted good stereo you had to lie on the floor with your head against the cabinet at a 45-degree angle, LOL!

@@flamencoprof in the early 1980s I saw Sarah Vaughan perform in the north of Palm Beach County, Florida. Dave Brubeck opened for her.

You actually reacted to the Brothers' Four biggest hit "Greenfields" some time ago. I grew up listening to the folk music of the late 50s and early 60s. I still have many albums of the Brothers Four, The New Christy Minstrels, The Kingston Trio, The Chad Mitchell Trio, and others in my massive album collection.
@fredbloggs6080Ай бұрын
Peter, Paul and Mary and the Seekers, also, I would assume, as far as trios or groups.

Good song but the studio recording sounds so much better. I'm not sure why music reviewers feel like they have to listen to a version that is captured from an old TV show or concert. It's music, so why not listen to the best recording instead of one that is compromised?
