the point of a survival whistle is, 1) it can be heard much further than your voice, yelling and 2) it does not cause strain on your vocal cords, so you can use it much longer than you can effectively holler. the internationally recognized alarm for someone in need is to blow three short whistles, in 3 seconds, pause for 5 seconds, and repeat as long as required. search and rescue will respond with 1 whistle, to tell you they are near, this does not meant stop, they will use your whistles to locate you. everyone should have a whistle on them at all times. sometime, as a test, try putting yourself in a position that make4s it hard to breath deep. have someone be 100 feet away, and try hollering "help" , then blow the whistle three times, and see which one they can hear better. I also feel that everyone should carry a fixed blade knife any time they are going into the woods. they have a lot more capability than even a really tough folder if you find yourself in an unintentional over night camping situation. a 4-6" blade, full tang knife is a critical piece of emergency gear.

I own this knife, I've carried it a couple of times on hiking trips. It's a good sharp knife. 420HC steel is fairly tough and holds an edge for a minute. Like the blade shape and the handle is comfortable. Good review video. Thanks

Bro, thanks for commenting and for watching at all. I'm new to this so I want all the input I can get. Tell me about your EDC and what you carry. Are you new to the hobby?
@timtitus25325 ай бұрын
I'm not new to the hobby. If that's what you want to call it, it's more like a mild obsession. I've been collecting for about 50 years, and I don't have a bunch of money to throw at it, so most of my collection is in the sub hundred dollar range. I've been down sizing what I have, giving it to my kids. Today, I'm carrying my Manix 2XL in CRUWEAR and my Paramilitary 2 in S45VN. There's not much room left in the pocket for the rest of my EDC stuff. I liked your video, I've been drooling over the Padre for a year, a sweet knife, and a great blade steel. Have a great day, and thanks for the content.

Love my Selkirk. Yes…I batoned some 3-4” diameter white birch with it. All I had to do was tighten one screw in the grip later. It takes a great edge and holds it pretty well. One of my “not trading it away” blades.

@@cincinnatus007 and before anyone gives me flak, not saying you will or did, I typically DON’T baton with my knives. But this one said “try me” and I did out of curiosity. I wanted to Womp on it a bit before carrying it all the time. Especially being a Scoutmaster and knowing what my Scouts could possibly wreak upon it. Several of them got the mini version after I demonstrated it to them. I can achieve 10-12 curl shavings with it on birch branches. They can too now.

Very nice video. I would recommend trying the BPS adventurer and the two other knives i use are coldsteel SRK-C the 3v version is around $89 at midway. The last knife is coldsteel mini pendleton hunter. I use the aus10 version it is the best bird and trout knife ive ever found. The BPS adventurer is amazing the steel is 1066 which is German spring steel comparable to 5160. Sharpest knife ive ever bought. That list is the knives i use the most -my mora Garberg (because you commented you weren't a mora fan) That folder was very nice i really like that. I generally carry a tri-ad lock knife. I love lockbacks. Hope you have a chance to try anyone of them you won't be disappointed. The SRK-C is like $35 for the sk5 version so they all are budget knives. Under $45.

Just found your channel, & thank you for reviewing the Selkirk fixed blade. My hands are also larger, and from the way it fit in your hand, I just don't think I'd like the length of the handle. (A handle that's too small on an otherwise nice knife, especially on fixed blade knives, is one of my pet peeves, because there's nothing you can do about it.) It's because of the uneven heat-treat, when you use the top spine it damages the steel. I had to flatten the edges out again. Love the design, but china had poor heat-treat for blades at the time, a company called RealSteel is doing better heat treats. This is a budget Chinese manufacturer, finally making decent steel.
