How funny is it that the dogs fans honestly think Sam got smashed when he took the restart haha. No idea, he had the most balls in that game. Tony Williams isn't a dog he's a cat. You'll never see him run the ball like or even at any of our big men.

i reckon the burgess boys were the reason Souths won the 2014 premiership but what i want to know is why Sam Burgess played the whole 80min in the gf. I thought forwards only played like 65min max due to their workload and had like a bench rotation. Sam also had a broken cheekbone so i was just wondering why he played the whole game
@MTJRugby
@MTJRugby 9 жыл бұрын
Sam's probably the hardest bloke in sport today, if not one of the hardest blokes in the world. Souths were probably favourites to win the final and nothing was going to stop Sam from playing and winning that match. His attitude and work ethic amazes me.

So... Where do we see Sam being played in union? Can't see him being used as an 8 for England, he'd be third choice at best. Now George would be a good 8.
@MTJRugby
@MTJRugby 10 жыл бұрын
I reckon he'll start as an 8 for Bath and then Lancaster might try him in the centres. People can say all they like but Twelevetrees has been given many opportunities and he hasn't delivered, I'd love to see Sam at 12.
@IamMcBobb
@IamMcBobb 10 жыл бұрын
Mothertrucker Jones I don't think Sam has the distribution skills for a 12. 36 has shown himself to be a great distributor and lovely tactician (I have quite liked him in his international career thus far). I think the problem with the current backline is Farrell throwing passes like bullets for no bloody reason.
@MTJRugby
@MTJRugby 10 жыл бұрын
MrMcBobb Twelevetrees has been distinctly average for England for a while and every time someone else plays 12 we seem to play better (Barritt and Tuilagi, Eastmond and Tuialgi). Sam has great hands and is very agile, he'd be a brilliant centre.
@IamMcBobb
@IamMcBobb 10 жыл бұрын
Mothertrucker Jones I spend ages on a massive spiel then youtube lost it. Here goes another, When I first saw he'd made the switch I thought about him being a 13. Imagine having Manu run at you for 50-60 minutes then have him subbed for Burgess. Your choices are going home early or going to hospital. Another option I pondered was having a George North style giant on the wing, bring him infield for crash balls much like the Saints and Wales do with North but I've grown out of that one. I just don't think he has the distribution or kicking for 12 but having seen more league (I never watched League before his switch other than the World Cup) and understanding more about it I've seen he has better hands and side-step than I was first led to believe ("Slammin' Sam" hardly denotes a player with finesse). Probably wouldn't have him at 8 because he'd be fourth choice (if I count Steffon Armitage aswell) I think the Twelvetrees - Burrell combo was great for the 6N. 36 looked like he was organising the backline really well and played with the level headedness of a man with a wealth of caps, not a handful. I do think he could do with a little more attacking venom though. The problem with England at the moment is too many good players and not enough match time, pre-RWC, to see them all grow properly.

George would be a phenominal 8 in union and for bath id like to see a burgess/devoto 12/13 combo, devoto is the stand out young midfeilder with a very greenwood style with his rangy running and great hands, thus making the hard running abrasive BigSam the perfect balance and with ford, just... -dribbles-

Rugby league has always improved the overall skills of union players but I cant ever remember union doing the same for league guys. Sam Burgess is a great player ànd is presented with a new challenge and the possibility of playing in great games but will it enhance his playing skills? Probably not. League has always been ahead on handling skills, running skills,fitness skills, tackling skills, defensive and attacking tactics , its inherent in the nature of the game. Union will enhance his playing curriculum and maybe his self development in other areas but I reckon he is as good now as he is ever gonna be and union's gain far outweighs his own in terms of playing skills, though he will be richer both in life experience and financially. Fair trade!!!!!

What absolute drivel. Never been to NZ then? I think the skill level and fitness there is sublime and overall rugby skills are improving all over the world as teams try and compete with the AB's. It will be interesting to see where they play S Burgess in union he should do well because he is big and powerful but ideally as a back. No one other than B Thorn has ever made it in the forwards after coming from league and B Thorn played a significant amount of union as a school boy. The skill set of forwards in union is not comparable to league it is far more diverse with rucking, fetching, scrums, and lineouts all of which are not easy skills to pick up just like that. Stop comparing apples to pears
@edwinmitchell5863
@edwinmitchell5863 9 жыл бұрын
No disrespects but Union is a fifteen man game there has been much better players switching from league to Union like Vainikolo the huge Nz star and many more I can think of . There has been maybe three league stars that made it in union and that is out of every league star there has been who crossed over to union and all failed at Union , it is hard to get space in the union game even for union stars and it's a harder game now union is , it didn't used to be but now I think it is harder and for league players like Farrell who was always got caught offside and couldn't really understand the union game .
@ChallisChallis
@ChallisChallis 9 жыл бұрын
league is like a training game for union...pretty flimsy rules and now real flow, union requires a broader range of player types, skills, tactics and techniques. Union is a far better and diverse game. league is still a better sport than things like football or cricket, any rugby is better than no rugby, skill is required for either code!

hellovanite drivel???? Ive played with all blacks both at union and league and I know their fitness and skill levels well enough. And as far as fitness goes the union boys had to increase theirs to match those of professionals and I dont think they would argue. They also had to increase their handling and tackling skills which I think theyd also agree with. These skills are the ones I was referring to, obviously a rl player has to learn his trade in union particularly if he might be playing in the forwards. Union skills have improved with professionalism forsure, but can you deny that top clubs and international sides, and im including nz and aus have used rl coaches to improve their defense. Ive played both codes for over twenty years and I know who I would choose were the better handlers, tacklers and runners with the ball and off the ball.
