*clunk, clunk * "What was that?" - Hint, it's your subframe. So you've done the research and landed on fixing the clunk with a locking collar kit instead of any other method.

Subframe movement was how the camber was adjusted. Say you had 0 degrees on left side and 1 degree on the right, you'd slide the subframe so there was .5 degree on each side. Then you tighten the subframe down. You might need another way to adjust camber if you lock the subframe down, like new ball joints or adjustable lower control arms.

@@TheParkingLotMechanicon my car the clunking from below turned out to be the emergency brake cable , it had fallen out of its bracket . It would bang against the bottom of the car anytime I went over a bump , & it was annoying as hell . I just re-secured the cable back inside its bracket , & no more clunking . In your case , perhaps the cable’s bracket itself is loose & swings the cable against the floor . If you haven’t solved your clunking issue yet , perhaps this is the culprit

Do you think you could do a video on recommended tools for working on the mk6, I’ve looked at forums and they aren’t very clear as to what is good

For sure! I can tell you now though that a large set of standard wrenches and tools takes me pretty far on this thing. Only specialty tool I had to buy was a fuel injector puller/installer when I did the carbon cleaning.

Get a Triple Square set. Many bolts on VW/German cars us them. Also id suggest a pass-through socket set. Along with standard wrenches and drivers

The gti from stock could use some nvh. It's boringly smooth. I came from ef Hondas which was a rolling death trap in comparison

Definitely more engaging to drive with more NVH. If you're not into modding, the comfort is a plus but not for us!

I don't 100% match what everyone's symptoms are. But my alignment got knocked off once it started acting weird, the center steering wheel feel is loose too. Almost feels like a bad tie-rod, or loose rear control arm. I think they're just super messed up from offroading. I'll give updates, I'm just doubtful such a shitty feeling is so simply fixed.

Yeah that doesn’t sound like just subframe clunk. There were no negative handling characteristics (that severe really) with the clunk so it’s most likely something else. But the locking collar kit really did more than I thought it would for sure.

Sounds like what's going on with my 2012 GLI, it's the strut mounts and struts on my car, also swaybar end links like to clunk

Not that I was told but it tracked straight and had normal tire wear until the alignment I got for the coilovers.
