Hey!! Appreciate the sub. I’ve never had any overheating issues with this camera. To be fair, I use this mostly as a Broll camera but I use it a decent bit as a second angle when I shoot interviews with my c70. In the Caribbean in 80degree weather I’ve recorded for 40mins-an hour in 4K 10bit and the camera was very warm but still could record in any format. This will be my first summer with the r3 and I’m sure it will do very well how big the body is allows for heat to vent very easily. However I’d still recommend a c70 over the r3 as a “continuous recording” type camera.

I'm using a 2022 MacBook Pro. 14in M1 pro with everything spec'd out except only a 2TB internal SSD. It works really well for 6k raw if I edit off the internal drive.

How do you like having both the R5C and R3? I'm thinking about getting one coming over from Sony and debating between these two. I am pretty much 50/50 when it comes to photo and video work and pretty experienced when it comes to color grading and etc. Do you find the video quality looks similar? I know you can lower/turn off the noise reduction on the R5C so I was wondering if that makes a difference. As well as the dynamic range. Price isn't a concerned for these so that is not a factor. Any insights on yours or anyones experience would be amazing. Thanks!

@@guydesrouilleres183 I owned both and sold my R5C. Kept my R3 and don’t regret it at all. I do both photo & video and honestly hated using the R5C. The battery life was awful and switching to video or photo felt like forever since I shoot a lot of events where I need to capture both photo and video. The R5C video did look more “cinematic” reminded me of my C70 look but the R3 is also amazing. I always get compliments about my videos and it’s always when I use my R3. The battery life lasts all day at weddings and if I’m doing photo and video I just need two for the whole day. AF on video is a lot better on the R3 as well. My advice is to get the R3 if you don’t want to be rigging up the R5C with a v mount or if you need something that can switch in a instant from photo to video.

My most used lens has got to be the good ole 24-70 2.8. Favorite video lens right now is the siuri 35mm anamorphic 1.6x Favorite photo lens is the sigma 28mm art.

@@Rayblawpht the rf 35mm f1.8 would be a must, it’s affordable, very sharp and it has autofocus, if you have the cash I would suggest the rf 24-70 L f2.8. It’s extremely sharp from 24 to 70, and the autofocus and Image stabilization is amazing, also it has no focus breathing. In my opinion that’s all you’ll need, unless you would get the 50 1.2 L and 85 1.2 L

Not sure off the top of my head but it’s a totally different sensor. You get the GPS, build quality, battery life, and internal raw. I could be wrong but I think the r6ii needs an external recorder for raw? To be honest though they’re very close.

I shot sony from 2015-2018. Also all my friends currently shoot with Sony mostly the fx3 and fx6. I love the Sony system but what really gets me is that none of them have internal raw recording. Sony has lots of advantages over canon, but the build quality and raw recording has me locked in with canon.

@@HarrisonTarabella I’ve never shot with a Sony before but I have held a few of them in a camera store and wasn’t impressed with how they feel in the hand. Also there really tiny. I must say whenever I pick up the R3 it brings a smile to my face build quality wise lol. When shooting in raw on R3 what iso are you using?

@@iamvelour typically 800 unless I really need higher levels. I’ve been super impressed with the low light on the r3 but I can always change the iso in post since it’s raw.

It’s lighter because it only uses one battery while the r5 uses 2. But battery life on the R5 sucks so canon evens out things in this way to make it seem like the best camera.

I bet the z9 is amazing. Haven’t used it though and don’t really have an interest in it at the moment. I forgot to mention this in the video but a big reason I like this camera is that 6k is my favorite shooting format. 8k from the r5 was just absurdly bloated and too much data to justify the resolution. 6k (for me) is the perfect bit of extra detail on a 4K timeline but still “manageable” data levels.

Hey man!! Thanks for the comment. I should’ve said this in the video but I like 6k much more than 8k. For me, it’s the best balance of resolution and storage. 8k always feels like overkill for me and my clients. Might be different for you but that was important to me. I also just prefer the naturally bigger battery over having to buy a grip. Also having to carry a power bank in my pocket to get the most out of the camera would be not great for how I work but that doesn’t mean it’s bad! I’ve never had my r3 overheat? Maybe some people have but I’ve recorded for a very long time under sun and the camera even gets pretty hot but no overheating. I also never said the r3 was a professional video camera. This video is to show that the R3 is a killer hybrid camera that I use for professional video work to fill a specific need. If the r5c works for you then that’s amazing and I wouldn’t tell you to get anything else. For me though the r3 is just a better hybrid because it can always operate at full power with no limits without needing anything extra other than what was in the box.

You’re gonna want to set it to “video” and then make sure the AF is turned “on”

I don't really mind noise (to a point). Every camera has it when you zoom in far enough. If you shoot raw it's going to be there no matter what. As long as you can fix the chroma noise I'm personally fine with it. Put it this way, out of every edit revision I've had over my entire career I've never had a client say "that shot is noisy."

You don't NEED one, but to unlock the full capabilities of the R5c you have to have an external power supply.

@@HarrisonTarabella I meant you don't need a v-mount you can use a battery bank. Other people have corrected you. Also, that big battery on the R3 is about the same-size as a battery bank. You clearly haven't used the R5c.

@@contentm3893 my apologies then for misunderstanding what you said earlier. I will reiterate what I have said to a few of these comments here, I don’t think the R5c is bad at all and if you like it I will never try and convince you that it’s a bad camera. My point is that whether it’s a V mount or the extra battery grip you’re still having to make an additional purchase to get the most out of your camera. Also, I was using my R3 over the weekend with a friend who had the R5c and he had the battery grip. His setup was larger than the r3.

I totally agree, it’s the worst part of the camera for me. If I’m shooting with anything wider than 35 mm I turn it off for video.

Photographers can also have Cfast, CF, UHS2, XQD, CF express type A, or CF express type B cards. The ability to shoot double redundancy on two cards of the exact same type is very important.

@@HarrisonTarabella Yes but I'd rather use my plentiful perfectly fine SD cards without further expensive. Plus its eco friendly to not have to discard cards for no reason.

Not a fan of canon's repairs either. I will say, I've never once had the camera overheat in 120. And I run it at 6k 60p all the time with no issues.

If I didn't spend time detailing what I don't like about the camera I'd come across as bias. Often people spend a lot of their own money on a camera and develop a strong bias that it's the best camera ever because they have thousands of dollars invested in it. Cameras are just tools. I value image quality and durability over a lot of other things, so it's way faster to say "the image is great and this camera is tough" than it is to explain the many small reasons I might prefer Clog 2 over Clog 3. I'm never trying to make a sale. If anything I'm glad you focused on the reasons I said I didn't like the r3 because not everyone needs a $6000 camera at the end of the day.

My brother in Christ I have used an R5c side by side with the R3 on and off for a year and I stand by this video.

@@HarrisonTarabella Hey Brother, my point was you can use a power bank and connect thru USB-C and don;t have to use a v-mount battery to power the R5C. So, taking photo's on the R5C does not change at all. The cine side on the R5C now connect that camera to the C70 which you've used a lot. That's that other point.
