Mary is instantly likeable and a great player. a wee series that could be interesting is for Mary to interview and pick the brains of other local players (particularly mick, Pete, rabea; but even other musicians from surrounding area that are great musicians but perhaps not quite the 'captain meets' established musician level) how do they approach certain musical situations; how they get from A to B in terms of scales and jamming; maybe even a bit of teaching each other wee tricks; taking gear and gigs. like a captain meets but more spending time with spender ;-)

I think you've hit on it exactly, Zooneba. I think that would be very interesting to watch a young and obviously very talented young player just starting out chatting with other musicians in her scene, and with those at the next rungs up. I also think that Mary is so delightful, that her interactions with local legends like Bernie Marsden would be very natural and wonderful Andertons TV...

I think Mary has wonderful interview skills and would serve well in that capacity. I also think she could add to the great guitarist lineup and assist with demos which can add a valuable perspective. Or she could just sing and play. Never get tired of hearing her sing.

In terms of what Mary could do for Andertons, in addition to a new 'Discovering Gear' series, exploring basic functions and creative applications of amps and pedals, get her, Rabea and Hannah Boulton into a room together and just see what happens... get her jamming with Bea, Pete, ESPECIALLY Mick (her refined style and his would really fit!), and more of her and yourself, Captain Lee... just keep Chappers away from her or he'll scare her off! ;-)

Mary Spender's phrasing is perfect, and her stage presence (that sidelong look at the Captain at just the right point in the first song!) is great; wow, I feel like I'm jumping on a bandwagon at just the right time, right as it's about to take off and go far!! Kudos to Ms. Spender, I hope to hear so much more from her. 🙂

I'd love to see more demos with her using clean tones/ techniques/ effect pedals with the cleaner tones... less shredding than others...( but I love Rob,Pete, Rebea,.. and all you awesome shredders :) and tones coming from the guitar/amp using fingers, not picks. With how known Mary is for her voice now, often times people forget how amazing she is as a guitar player, and this is from a old(well now I'm past my 56th bday recently can say that)guitar player..no, no links to vids, this is my personal private account, not a band one ;) But even though this is older(don't know how I missed it before, but often busy, and not as much youtube time) would like to see her do gear reviews from a independent artist standpoint..and yes, as a female guitarist as well. Also the aspects that this channel has not covered in depth, as in how to transport your gear to gigs and such. Just everything really.

I'd like Andertons TV to go on a "fieldtrip" and film some of Mary's shows with proper recordings taken off the desk. Doesn't matter if its a small solo show or a bigger show with a band.
@JDODify
@JDODify 7 жыл бұрын
Also, filming studio sessions when she's recording would be good, all the messing about with different tones/mic placements to get the right sound, different takes of different guitar parts or vocal parts to find what you're after. All the cocking about it takes to get a full track together and the "Oh bollocks!" moments when you cock up something simple during the 3rd verse when you think you're doing a perfect take would be interesting to watch. But then showing how all of that comes together, with the reverbs and mixing to make the final track.

Lee, to answer your question on how to use Mary...I think, because of her relative lack of knowledge regarding pedals and gear, it would be interesting to pair her up with Pete and Rabea to try out various pedal and amp combinations and learn how they work with her playing style and how she can apply them to her writing...the "voyage of discovery", so to speak, would be good for other people beginning to learn gear to get past being self conscious and dig into things...

I constantly find myself going back to this video just for the Primrose-jam. The Captain adds so much neat stuff in there and then that solo. Awesome version!

Captain please try to get Juliette Valduriez (now going by Juliette Jade) on the show. She's an amazing guitarist and she's recently written recorded and produced her first album.

I have been playing guitar since I was 13 (close to 20 years now) and I have just in the past year become interested in and intrigued by the creative possibilities of pedals and amps. Although it will take a bit longer to afford the amps I would like, I am so hooked on pedals and my board that I have put together this past year that I have no idea how I allowed myself to be in the dark for so long! Anyhow, Mary, just wanted to say that it is really encouraging to hear a great artist and guitar player like yourself share how this sonic exploration is still very new to you as well(:

I just love when people have talent and are really good at what they do but they are still sweet, kind, humble and nice. Warms my heart. And what an awesome intro. I just need a whole album like this to listen to and relax.
