The Black Out Charger is in essence Americas RA40 Lotus Carlton, a car that was uncatchable for its era and getting within 100ft of it was because the driver let you. Both were built on very common saloons of their time, one modified by Lotus Engineering to be the worlds fastest saloon and one most likely modified in his or her’s home garage to evade the authorities for shits and giggles. While the RA40 Carlton’s legendary existence came to an end in 1994, the Black Out Charger is still alive and there’s no telling if the next Black Charger with a loud exhaust you see is just an average mopar enthusiast or the infamous blackout charger.

@@jsouthent5127 Around 57% of the german autobahn does not have a speed limit. In that case the "speed limit" is 80mph, but it is just a recommendation. You can go as fast as safely possible. But if you go at speeds well above the 80mph recommendation, you will almost always receive a part of the blame for any accidents that happen, because a higher degree of responsibility, awareness and care is expected from speeding drivers. Recently, a tchec billionaire published a video on social media going 260mph with his 1500hp bugatti on the autobahn. Although, the authorities started investigating initially, they later dropped the case, because no reckless driving could be concluded. So yes, you can go as fast as you like, if done in a safe manner, but you better not crash as in that case you will be partly blamed

I bought my 2006 Dodge Magnum RT brand new on June 18, 2006. The very next day at an event I was working I saw not only my first police Hemi Charger, but it was a South Carolina Highway Patrol Charger, and an SRT8 version at that. I asked the cop about it, and he said it was so fast that is was scary even to him. He said that a few days before a sport bike had passed him at well over 120mph while he was doing 70mph. He gave e chase, and caught up with that sport bike in astonishingly quick time. He noted that the sport bike was a Ninja or something that could easily do 180+, but when he pulled up behind the bike, they were doing 160, and the bike was still trying to pull away, but the Charger stayed on his tail, and at 170+, the bike gave up and pulled over. Unreal. I’m sure it’s because of expense, but there were some SRT police cars. I also read from a forum on police cars and how they are chosen and who gets what, that while some Chargers top out at 131mph, other police package 5.7 Chargers can be made to top out at 150+, and the guy said that some agencies don’t want their officers to have that much top end capability, mostly in more urban settings, and the 150mph versions are generally in highway patrol duty. FYI.

Sure, the car is capable, but it's a two part equation: Is the driver capable? Usually when it comes to many/most cops, the answer is no, not past 140. It takes real skill to handle a car above those speeds on a road as dynamic as a public highway.

When you look at the highest few numbers on the RPM guage in your car you see that they have a red line instead of the usual white. An engine will have a maximum RPM it can go and the last few RPM's are its "redline". The redline is also when a non-electric powered car is at its maximum power. Ever hear a car go full throttle and go "baaap baap baap baap" and then they shift and the engine noise becomes lower to slowly increase again? Thats a car at redline before the next shift.

We shall never forget the fact that a Hellcat Challenger literally outran police/news helicopters in a 200+mph chase until it ran out of fuel. EDIT: LMAO, 5K likes???? Thanks XD Also, let me add a personal hot take: *Cops should stop chasing that Charger. That car is the proof modern cop cars are outright obsolete for high speed chases.* There have been more than 15 attempts and they all ended in embarrassing defeats for the police. Police officers, it's time for you to choose any of these three: 1- Update the maximum speeds of your police cars once and for all. 150 mph and 0-60 in 6 seconds isn't that fast anymore, we're not in the 2000s anymore. *Most cars nowadays can do that, now **_even shitboxes_** can do it.* 2- Convince police corporations to be willing to use high-performance police cars that have the sole purpose of stopping high-speed cars, without the capacity to carry even half of all the equipment they carry. (Have real high-speed interceptors like Corvettes, Hellcats, Shelbys, SS's, and even Raptors, not NA-powered, 204 CU Explorer-based or 350HP Charger "Interceptors" that are humiliated in 100+ mile-per-hour chases without possibly using tactics. lethal attacks against a guy who only wanted to go fast, without committing any other crime, that is, the police should now have real undercover sports cars, not normal cars that look aggressive, even if they are only 1 or 2 units, but they now need to have them. *AND USE THEM.* ) 3- *Simply stop chasing high-performance cars and give up.* You want to catch street racers? *It's time to step the gas.*

There was another black dodge car that held a similar title, in the 70’s. Though, it wasn’t a charger. It was a challenger. With a gator skin top. The guy would challenge locals around Chicago, if I’m not mistaken, to drag races. The guy would absolutely destroy everyone that raced him. Only thing was, he would disappear after winning. He would blow the doors off anything around, and keep going after winning. Nobody knew who the guy was. Later on down the years, his son was gifted the car and took it to a few car shows. Well, older gentleman whom his father had raced, noticed the car and recognized it. Turns out the guy was a Chicago police officer. It’s a really cool story. Even the Dodge motor company recognized how cool the story was and made a limited run of new challengers named after his car. Look up the “Black Ghost” dodge challenger. If you enjoyed this video, you’re in for a treat.

You are right. It is the driver. Most drivers are not as good as they think they are, even cops. It's not how fast you are, it's how good you are. Oh, also speaking of cops (who are commonly among the worst drivers I have ever instructed).....The best answer to give a cop when they pull you over and ask "Do you know why I pulled you over?" is "Because I let you." It will go exactly one of two ways: Either you get out of whatever bullshit ticket you were going to get, or you're going to be unceremoniously extracted from your car and spend the night in jail. So far I haven't gone to jail, knock on wood. 😅

Like the Bell 206 Jet Ranger used by the LAPD only goes 220km/h… Not saying thats easy to outrun but I regularly go that fast on my way home from work (I‘m from Germany so its a legal speed and only go so fast when the highway is clear). I would’ve guessed a Heli would at least go like 300km/h.

I did the same thing when I was young I had a 1984 Monte Carlo super sport I built it for the sole purpose of absolute speed and being able to evade the cops. It was an absolute monster punching out over 840 hp with a 454 big block, I had 355 wide tires on a Ford 9 inch fully rolled caged, and I built it to handle corners at excessively high speeds at most cars that are stock cannot do even Corvettes can’t. I had all of the lights on Killswitch itches to where I could blackout my tail lights And headlights individually. The headlights and the tail lights both I used that stuff you can get out of Riley‘s in a can to spray them and make them darker. They were pretty much blacked out that way anything reflective on the car would not be reflective. The car was also done in Flat black with certain patterns done in bedliner spray. The break up of everything would make it so much harder to see at night and I would only take the car out to have fun at night. It was very talked about around town but unfortunately I never became legendary as the car became victim to a Fire at my brothers shop that he had in his house where we built our cars. The car was completely melted down. I’ll just say this the fire was intense enough that the aluminum brodx heads I had on the motor melted.

Only the car that pulled over had his headlights on with the taillights shut off. In the other scenes the suspect just completely shuts off the lights. They may do it so civilians won't react to them flying by at 200mph, or to completely hide their presence, or a combination of that. I saw some video where a guy almost crashed because he turned off his lights in a chase. The getaway drivers seem to either practice this or rely on dumb luck and guardian angels.

Not to mention cop cars are running on 225 width tires on such a big heavy car. He is best to quit while he is ahead . The longer he keeps it up , the greater the chances he will get caught. In 1967 after I got out of the USAF, I ordered a 1967 GTO from the factory. It had a Hurst 4 on the floor. One night on my way home I noticed a set on headlights coming up fast so not knowing who it was , I turned off the state highway and turned on a county road . I noticed he turned too, so the race was on. It was mostly all flat land and roads were in square miles. I would take him around square miles and every time I turned a corner , I got farther away. When I thought I was far enough ahead I headed for home . When I hit my road ( it was gravel ) I got the car fishtailing to kick up as much dust as I could. When I turned in the driveway I braked hard , pulled the parking brake, and shut off the headlights. I pulled in a shed, closed the doors, and ran to the house. With the house lights off I looked out the window to see who was chasing me. It was an Ohio State Highway Patrol that went flying by. He never turned on his red light. If he had , I never would have tried that, I would have stopped. About a week later a buddy of mine that didn't have as fast of a car, tried to out run one that had his red light ( back then they only had one red light on top ) on. He made a mistake and went into a town and that is where the two way radio caught him. I miss that old car. I had it above 150 one time and when I looked at the tach it sunk in how fast I was going and I chickened out. I never did that again.

Electrics that supposedly got the equivalent of 350-400HP on average and their top speed only limited by software? These guys only need to either CFW the ECU or swap it for an unlocked one and they got full control. Also, with the silent power, only way cops can hear them speeding away is if the tyres shriek. Car chases in Europe might get... interesting in the coming years. Not necessarily exciting but will definitely involve a lot more wit and trickery

I was working with Lotus at the time and saw them filling up skips with brand new GM engines, transmissions etc, that were all sent for scrap (it would be illegal to sell them). That's why they were so expensive - buyers were paying for almost 2 cars in 1. For some reason GM (known as Vauxhall in the UK) refused to sell Lotus just the body shells. I also worked with the company that stores Lotus's concept cars, and test vehicles etc off-site. They had (as of 10 years ago) a Lotus Carlton with just 10 miles on the odometer. It's been stored in a container, and only taken out once a year to free off the brakes, check for rust etc. There are also similar Lotus Cortinas etc in similar condition.

the Mercury Marauder was a pretty sick car back in the day. But they were very temperamental, the ABS computer didnt like any changes to the wheel/tire size. on top of having proprietary(or very rare) staggered wheel/tire size. during the 2000's i think only Goodyear?(been awhile cant remember the brand) made the tires and they would go out of production a lot during the later 2000's/yearly 2010's. the early "fix" was to disable the ABS, which..... is not optimal. the later fixes was to especially reprogram the ABS computer to accept whatever wheel dimensions u went to. now onto the Impala, there were a few tuner "houses" in the US for the Impala, we had a customer with a one, cant remember the house/brand. it pretty much had a stock car racing engine(as the legend goes) on a beefed up chassis with MONSTER tires. rears were 365 fronts were 305. the thing was a monster. I really wish i had 100% of the details, but this was back in 05/06 and i was a young tire man who didnt pay too much attention to cars. all i know was that it was loud and people who knew what it was would stop and gawk at it. fun car history.

No doubt the driver is a seasoned professional with a strong racing pedigree. One of the troopers in your city that has been chasing him is a seasoned track driver, and he was outclassed. The guy outclasses Bird. These guys have radios, helicopters and drones yet they can’t manage to catch a little old guy in dodge. Sad…. Cops think they get the best training when it comes to driving but most of the LEDT classes are a joke (I’ve been through s few). The instructors aren’t allowed to train them the way they would like. Same goes for the firearms side of things with law enforcement. Lawyers keep their hands tied. That’s why they will always be outclassed by the serious few who put the time in behind the wheel.

@@NunyaBusiness-re9pb You're just wrong. The Dodge they're trying to catch isn't some everyday Charger, it's likely a Hellcat or even a Redeye. They have some SERIOUS power for being factory-produced. There's a video of a Hellcat Challenger outrunning a News Helicopter, and the only way they caught him is because he ran out of fuel. It's not training that's the issue, it's not having sufficient equipment. Plus, I'm pretty sure that Police Helicopters aren't feasible against the Blacked Out Charger since by the time they'd be in the air, the car is LONG gone.

From looking at all the footage I've seen, the uncatchable black Charger has the body panels, wheels, and suspension ride height of a basic Charger R/T. Given it's ability to pull away quickly without spinning the wheels, it's not making Hellcat or Redeye power. If it had a big cam, it would have a rough idle, but it doesn't. I suppose it could have a Scat Pak 6.4L swapped into it, but I'm going to guess it's just the original 5.7L with a few simple bolt-ons and a clever and skilled driver behind the wheel.

I learned to drive in the UK when living there as a teen. We had a Granada Ghia with a Cosworth motor and was optioned with the RS500 suspension package but had a 4 spd manumatic transmission. It was basically a fancier version of the '86-'88 NA RS500. That sucker was fast. IDK if my mom ever really knew there were 200 ponies under the hood (it is a lot for a car that weighs around 2700lbs). I outran the cops in it one night but it wasn't much of a challenge because they were driving a Vauxhall Astra 1.4l with literally half the horsepower. I've also driven the second generation Crown Vic Interceptor and, while it is pretty quick off the line, it handles like shit. They should have kept buying the old Impala instead. It was the better car. I owned 3 box Caprices and a Grand Marquis with the infamous 5.0 FI from the Mustang. Great motor. Shit car. Was really only good for drag racing.
