Okay, but why you , audience, continually name Richard Sinclair and do not appreciate Pye Hastings, his voice and his skilful guitar style?

@@pasqualemuzzupappa1991 I love Pye but his vocals could be a little pitchy live compared to Richard. Both fantastic instrumentalists too, I never think Caravan get enough credit for pushing themselves into jazz long before most prog bands. Coughtlan was one of those great "melodic" drummers who saw the big picture. Steve Miller is on fire, but was replaced first by Derek Austin (a friend and former colleague!) then the returning Dave Sinclair. Never a dull moment in this band.

The ever-reliable Calyx reports - 5 September 1971 London, Marquee Club (afternoon) (filming of "Swing In" for Germany's WDR TV) [also: Patto, Fusion Orchestra] Setlist: "Place Of My Own", "The Love In Your Eye", "If I Could Do It All Over Again...", "Waterloo Lily", "For Richard" (anyone ever known a seated audience at the Marquee?). Simply magnificent! The Legendary Steve Miller on Wurlitzer piano!

Digging seeing this footage with Steve Miller in the band. Love his recordings with Lol Coxhill! Steve was the brother of the late, great guitarist Phil Miller. RIP Steve and Phil.

C'è bisogno di buona musica e anche di vedere dei filmati,spezzoni di concerti o concerti interi da ascoltare e anche vedere, i vari gruppi Prog Rock e musicisti più importanti e talentuosi in azione, in questo caso i fantastici CARAVAN!!!!!!!!!!! Good choice!!!!!!!!!!

Has Richard forgotten the lyrics on Waterloo Lily ? @ 15.35. Sounds a bit muddled... nevertheless an amazing lost masterpiece. Richard is my favourite vocalist and bass player of all time.... I saw Caravan once in 1973 when i was 16 ! Rich had already left by then but was still a great gig.😊 The land of grey and pink is one of my most played albums. I saw Richard perform with Camel several times. Also another favourite of mine. All hail these wonderful musicians - their music will live on forever ❤

This must be early days for him judging by the version of Waterloo Lily here. He certainly seems to be feeling his way. More of a pianist than organist like Sinclair was on the first three albums.

Wow, was für eine klasse Aufnahme der gaaaanz frühen Caravan. Der WDR ist schuld (😁) an meiner Caravan Obszession. In meiner Jugend hat mich auf WDR 2 Winfried Trenkler mit seinen Sendungen "Rock In" und der Donnerstags Radiothek auf Caravan gebracht

Which is the date of this broadcast? I presume that this would be 1971 or 1972. Caravan is one of my favorite prog bands. Some years ago, I watch Caravan concert here in Brazil, as main band of "Rio ArtRock Festival". It is a great memory.

das liegt einfach dran, daß die jungs, die das zeug verwalten, keine ahnung von der materie haben. diese sendung lief ja auch nie im ROCKPALAST, denn den gab es als sendung noch gar nicht, als das aufgenommen wurde. hätte ich eher dem BEATCLUB zugetraut, aber die rechte für die paar sendungen von SWING IN ROCK IN (ich habe damals JETHRO TULL und TEN YEARS AFTER gesehen, wenn mich meine erinnerung nicht im stich läßt) liegen wohl jetzt beim WDR und werden von den ROCKPALAST-jungs verwaltet...

Not an unreasonable error. And they deserve credit for giving the band such a fine opportunity to be heard.

The addition of a "The" to the name of the band came courtesy of whoever put this online in 2024. The original broadcast did not contain the mistake. No one has ever called them "The Caravan", a basic check would have been a good idea. The WDR who got them this opportunity back in 1971 are long gone from WDR, and possibly from this planet. Different people - my criticism was denefinitely NOT addressed to them.

The band were actually sometimes billed as The Caravan early on in 1968-1969 but not by late 1971

Love Caravan but I gotta say Pye's lead playing was not at the level of musicianship of the rest of the band. Very shaky solos.

Caravan‘s lead instrument has always been the organ. Pye never even seemed to intend to play a LEAD guitar - but he did, because he‘s the architect of the Caravan sound. He wrote most of their songs…
