Before his famous error in the '86 World Series, Bill Buckner was a talented hitter and fearless fielder. Let's remember him for his impressive career, not just one moment.

THANK U for this. Buckner was my childhood baseball hero here in Chicago/him and Sandberg. going on 40 years now since the Cubs traded him to Boston. I am still upset about that deal. players like Buckner DON'T come around often. from 1977-84 in the national league. Buckner, Steve Garvey, and Keith Hernandez were the BEST fielders and clutch hitters in the game. Buckner had not a good career. but a GREAT one. HOF in my book. RIP Billy Buck. 1949-2019

Thank you. Finally somebody giving him some credit for some things. Dude had over 2700 hits. I did some research years ago and he has more hits than over 60 hall of famers. I'd personally like to see a push to get him in the hall of fame. Guy undeservingly carried a very heavy load after the 86 series. Id like to see the veterans committee or someone put him in. He handled the error situation with class and deserves more than he got, even if its too late, I think he deserves more.

2,715 career hits...Buckner has MORE hits than 70% of players in the HOF. if he finished his career with the Cubs, like he should have. he would have gotten well OVER 3,000 hits/playing on BAD legs. if the Cubs dumb asses wouldn't have traded him back in the spring of 84.

Yessir, amazing player. I worked in media in the 70’s, heard his interviews while with Dodgers. Good guy too.

One of my favorite cubs. Couldn’t believe they gave him up for Durham. Buckner was clutch and rarely struck out.

when Dallas Green took over as G.M for the Cubs. I think it was LATE 81 or 1982. Green, Lee Elia, and Jim Fry. had it in for my boy Buckner...Buckner was brutally honest about how he felt. Buckner was the type of player back in his prime. you could build a Championship Cub team around. NOT Durham/just a kid in the 80's. history has proven I was right... if Buckner could win batting titles, drive in 100 RBI's several times, play great at first base, all the while doing it, on several BAD Cub teams/playing HURT!!! one could only imagine what he could have done playing on better contending teams with the Cubs. scary numbers, man, scary numbers.

I saw Buckner make some of the greatest plays when he played left for the Dodgers. Did you know in his career that lasted over 20 years not even one time did he strike out three times in a game.

Billy Buck used to always take his hat off before he went into the dugout so the Babes could all admire him. Saw him get bonked on the head by a flying hot dog wrapper at Wrigley. Perfect throw. He threw a FIT . Almost messed up his hair.
