What a LEGEND. If as a ppl we truly had this understanding in our early roots perhaps we would have been more grateful as a nation... Political leaders of this country have lost the true soul of leadership. I am honored to know that I belong to a country whose LEADER DR ERIC WILLIAMS was one that made a historical change and His Perseverance was an act of True Love for His country.🙏

I was born I trinidad I can recalled when we became independent , we had no race relation ship i trinidad the people at the time had no idea was the meaning dependence , they were asked most did not know, Dr Eric William had great ideas for Trinidad. He did lots for the island , education was a priority , he was the best, sadly there wasn’t so much against him, the island that he died of a broken heart the island went down the hill Trinidad was being destroyed by money Hungry men abd life is now very hard so all in my experience Ut s the british that gave Eric Williams the start In life his scholarship to Oxford so where is operation ! Anf I never experience racial hayseed i fact it was a black girl that always want to attach me that I decided to be her friend , but she was not kind , hey! My grand mother was from Venezuela and she was black my grand dad came from China my mother was creole French Spanish , that makes’ me a true Trini ! my husband is English . All in all Heinz 57. The british allow those with british passport to move to the Uk so how was that impression abd many left , many kept the british passport .

@gaitribharath5956

Is that why his ideologies has left Trinidad and Tobago in the 21st century as an underdeveloped nation? If the political party he belonged to thinks in this day and age laptops in the hands of secondary school children will not benefit them and that has been the ideology of the great Eric Williams and his predecessors to this day, big buildings and foreign flights does not mean a country is developed, for God's sake, we have homeless people defecating on our streets all the time, the streets reek of stale urine and crime is at an all time high. If that is what a godfather passed down, God help Trinidad and Tobago.

Eric Eustace Williams a man with a vision before his time. He believed Education was Freedom from poverty. He loved his colour and country. He loved his people and used his knowhow to free them from Colonial (slavery) domination. What I wish is the new political ions take a page from this great man. These positions aren't in his class. Selflessness is what made him great. He forged progress for his people not only for himself.

If you were to see the disaster that is Trinidad today by the same political party Eric Williams belonged to, the PNM, you would cringe to see that in the 21st century and trillions of dollars of oil money, the PNM government never used the money to sustainable grow and develop Trinidad and Tobago, dont mean to burst your bubble. To sharpen your sight on what to look for, Eric Williams as prime minister thought it was a great idea to send kids to secondary schools for half day, instead of building schools to house all the children, he rationed it to half day per student, an environment that we are seeing the failure of today in the 21st century.

independence morning 2020. He wasn't so grand. Found us and left us THIRD WORLD. _Drowning in petrodollars._ 1980 article @t - 'Money is not the problem' Trinidad and Tobago's austere Prime Minister Dr. Eric Williams once remarked in an unguarded moment he would probably rather forget. But take oil away from both sides of the account and the result is a *horrifying deficit.* Imports run at a level almost seven times the country's exports. *Trinidad is a massive food importer, while agricultural production for local food and exports is in steady decline.* *So is production of vital materials like cement and bricks. Even the assembly industries that still form the backbone of the manufacturing sector, from cars to appliances, are flagging badly.* The idea has been and still is to use oil wealth to finance swift industrialisation along familiar Third World lines, to expand manufacturing and eliminate dependency on a single export like oil.

@@boyiemohan5027 .. sugar and the deal the British made with the indians was indeed the foundation for indian success. that is why indentureship was not comparable with slavery it explains the disparity of today. The PNM is not only urbanized people. I am from Blanchisseuse and my family along with the whole community there are agriculture based. the northern range is in fact agricultural lands where the Trinidad has the richest soil for growing food. Such communities are self sufficient, votes PNM and dont rely on Indians for anything. I think you are not describing our history and economic realities correctly. Rural communities where indian or african predominate have always been agricultural and remote from each other. Africans in such parts were master tradesmen some even up to this day. Blanchisseuse community is not only forested but also a fishing community. The idea of dependence of Indians is a perception. The indians have been harvesting my perceptions since independence and even before that. which is why i was telling you about what the british did to foster division and resentment between the two racists. they set it in motion and even now many Indians grew up thinking harbouring either a superior view of themselves or resentment towards the Africans. Now Where Eric Williams is concern it is historical knowledge that the PNM reach out to the Indian communities first to smooth things over. Winston Mahabir, an indian in the PNM cabinet, was sent to communities to invite indians into the party. Even in Soca music Africans have always been the first to give an indian a space to integrate into the events and be counted. The are more Africans singing unity songs about togetherness than Indian singing about Africans suggesting the same. The PNM is not about suppression but order. and order feels like suppression because in any multicultural country lack of order will have chaos. So far no indian base party have been stable enough to control government for more than 2 terms. ask yourself why and focus on that. look inwards instead of spurring the same mantra about PNM inadequacy and consider why the Indian based UNC is not adequate enough to replace them. Maybe if you figure that out you would be in power longer

His PNM under Rowley i was thinking just a while ago today back when he raised the price of fuel - hardship! I repeat Williams ought to have left a *welfare state* - living wages, because state covered health and education no one struggles for, instead i paid through the nose or I was denied because unaffordable respectively. *WS* bare minimum - a FIRST WORLD state is better as incorporates that and more like exemplary Japan. Legacy is future generations left with the albatross on the neck the vain, corrupt PNM.
