In November 1971, while in Vietnam, was listening to Karen and a buddy made me a bet I couldn’t get her to write me. So I wrote her and sent it to the record label, it wasn’t until the end of January 71 I received a hand written letter from Karen. It was very warm hearted at the end she gave me an address and said she’d like me to write and let her know how I was doing. We wrote back and forth until I was gravely wounded in August 1971, I remember at times she was unhappy because of the pressures she was under. To be completely honest I fell in love with her but never told her. 54 years later, I still have her letters, met my soulmate 47 years ago. But Karen will be my first true love, I had heard one time that Karen’s mom handled her mail so I contacted Richard through his agent with copies of my letters, Richard contacted me and said the letters were genuine. I told him I would always keep them and my will stipulates they will be cremated with me.❤

I am 85 and pop music had passed me by until sadly my wife died and looking for ways to cope I found this amazing music. Her voice always seems tinged with melancholy and the yearning that I respond to in all their songs; not just the ballads. Karen's voice is of course, a beautiful instrument but it's her ability to use it to speak so directly to the heart that makes her extraordinary. and unique A bonus for me is that coming so late to them I am constantly discovering gems like this . As always it is so very very moving.

Uss JimmyCarter+ Like the song says, "Where can I buy another you?". There will never be another Karen Carpenter. She had a beautiful voice and she was an outstanding drummer. Some of her music was popular before I was born and some of her music was popular when I was a very small Child. It is so sad that she died so young because Karen Carpenter had a good heart too, even though she struggled with severe anorexia and bulimia. Karen Carpenter also collected Teddy Bears and she loved Children. I hope there is a Heaven and Karen Carpenter is there singing with the angels praying for the Children in Ukraine. And you are right, Karen Carpenter has a "depth and beauty" in her voice:)!

To me, Karen Carpenter has the 'perfect voice' - low, rich resonant and melodic' full of Hauntingly Beautiful and sometimes - so sad. She really was an Angel in real life. So sad that she didn't find much happiness on this earth, but she gave so much Happiness and inspired countless Singers - myself, included - she was/is my Idol. Bless You Forever, Karen...

The Carpenters should darn well be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame simply for the fact that K.C. was an influence to every single female drummer on this very planet! You hear tributes to the women in the hall for their infuences on women for picking up a guitar, but why aren't there accounts of the first famous woman to ever pick up a drumstick, and not only wonderfully play the instrument, but also sing so beautifully at the same time? R.I.P. Karen Carpenter (the greatest voice ever).

Many have said her VOICE had so much soul it was astonishing, particularly at such a young age. Her ability to translate the message of the song to our hearts remains unmatched. I especially love the way she sang the word, "Hideawayyy" near end of song at 3:08... sighhhh Karen

Every song they did was pure magic. Even the lesser known ones, like this one. It is SO beautiful. They both took such great care that every arrangement would be perfect in every way. NO ONE can EVER touch them. They were the greatest.

+Jan Abell Jan you are so right.... There will never be another Karen Carpenter or the Carpenters. Many have copied but no one will ever match their superb clear voices and wonderful arrangements I grew up on their music / received a letter from Agnus and visited their family home and street and soaked up the memories of a wonderful era in contemporary music. Thank God for Karen and Richard Herb Albert we also salute you for discovering them...

Jan, simply you describe exactly my words, there will never be another Karen Carpenter unless we have memory that an angel came down to earth to give us a piece of heaven. Now I guess the angels need it their angel back. I hope I can find to My Place to Hideaway to hear this beautiful music. that was Pure Magic

I love to watch Karen as much as I enjoy listening to her sing, because of her total commitment to the songs she sings. There is nothing self-conscious about her--nothing melodramatic--no vanity. Rather, (and you can see this in her face, as well as her in her gestures), her physical presence is an extension of her voice, this awesome instrument. She distills the essence of the song with an emotion that is both authentic and subtle.

Her inner conflicts, battles with her dictator-mother & unhealthy dieting regimes deemed her unsuited for bearing any children. Unless her weight returned to a healthy stable 120lbs, there would've been further complications. Truly a shame she didn't see the Big Picture effects?

As I watch these videos of the Carpenters, it takes me back to 1973 when I turn 13, and reminds me of how I hade the biggest crush on Karen. When she past away in 1983 I was devastated to the point that anytime I heard her sing I would feel such a sadness that it took me a long time to even listen to her sing again. Thanks for posting these videos because it will always remind me of why I fell for her in the first place. I know it's going to be a few weeks early but Happy Birthday in heaven Karen, you will always be in our hearts.

+Arthur Gurdo Thank you for sharing your private feelings. Even today when i hear her songs, i still feel that ping of brief sadness as such an incredible voice was lost and will never be replaced. If you have the opportunity, i recommend you obtain a copy of a dvd entitled "Close to you..Remembering the Carpenters". It follows their entire career and has film clips of performances and of course ends with her passing. It was emotional and takes a bit of time to get over it after it ends. It does leave you with much appreciation of their talent.

In 1966 at Downey high school in Downey, California Carpenters, such as their career in music, Karen was blessed by God and her gift of her singing, and the abilities to play the drums. I know I’m a witness to this effect I was a member of the band that I played she volunteered to help me Play the drums in the high school band during the year of 1967 even though Karen and I are very good friends I admire her for her honesty is and her dedication to music. She has the most wonderful person that I ever met inspire me of the music that they produced both Richard and Karen Were both very gifted and

In the history of recorded music, no more than a few singers have come along with the ability to interpret and convey the emotion and depth of a lyric like Karen Carpenter. Listening to her sing a beautiful melody is like getting a mind massage. This song was a perfect choice to showcase her astonishing vocal talent. RIP KC

One of the most beautiful voices ever, performed by the exquisite Karen Carpenter. Her voice was flawless & watching her was mesmerizing. Singing a Carpenters song is much more than matching her range & singing correct notes. Her emotional impact, breath control, tone, gentle vibrato, dynamics (she wasn't all soft whispers) & perfect pitch were unmatched then & now. Her unique vocals were the perfect blend of power & vulnerability. Back in the day, the World 🌎 realized we had someone special on Stage 😢
