My mom told me a few years ago that we are related to Sara Dougherty who married A.P. Carter. My grandfather and all my people on my moms side were from the Big Stone Gap area up in the mountains of southwestern Virginia near where Poor Valley was located. Nice to know and gives more information as to the music that runs in my family still to this day.

It's frustrating that our songs have changed and become annoying. Listen to the sound of the beautiful past

What interesting and wonderful harmony in the chorus. The Carters' vocal greatness is underappreciated.

What a stroke of luck that these people got together! I suppose you could say that about other famous musical groups, but somehow it strikes me more with the Carters. A.P. Carter composed so many of these beloved songs, but he seems to be such a modest, quIet man. And the two ladies were so talented but never a bit proud. Mother Maybelle can’t be matched when it comes to guitar picking, or so I’m told because I myself don’t know too much about it. But I watch her fingers in amazement.

I think they lived pretty well, they were selling a lot of records for that time. These songs were recorded in the late 1920’s and on. Sadly Sara left A. P. Later on.

you mean sitting outside in a chair in a rural setting makes you look poor? Curious definition of poverty.

@@dennisbrevoort3714 Maybelle said they didn't make any money from the record sales.
@direfranchement Жыл бұрын
@@diogenes9771 In those early days of recording, musicians usually made their money from the recording session itself, the session fee. Whatever money they made from record sales was usually very small, and many of them were definitely ripped off.
