I grew up on a farm in Ky starting in 1933 and the Carters were everyones favorite singers. I miss them too this day. I can still hear their voices coming out of that big radio. No electric so our radio was battery powered and they were very expensive so dad only allowed it to be turned on for the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday nights. Well, he did listen some during the week to Lowell Thomas news because WW2 was raging at that time. Reading down the list of comments I see some go back ten years. Makes me wonder how many have passed on and left these memories behind for us to see. Now on to some great music by the Carter Family!

Am I a soldier of the cross A follower of the Lamb And shall I fear to own His cause Or blush to speak His name [Chorus] On the sea (the sea, the sea) Of Galilee (of Galilee) My Jesus is walking on the sea On the sea (the sea, the sea) Of Galilee (of Galilee) My Jesus is walking on the sea Must I be carried to the skies On flowery beds of ease While others walk to win the prize And sail through bloody seas [Chorus] [Verse 3] There shall I bathe my weary soul In seas of heavenly rest And not a wave of trouble roll Across my peaceful breast

Met Mother Mabelle at the Horseshoe Tavern but I didn't really know the things she had accomplished . She was accompanied by a slew of daughters and I fell in love with Anita as had many other guys . Mother Mabelle played the autoharp an instrument that did nothing for me but years later when I heard this song and her picking the guitar it blew me away to realize I was in such a presence without knowing who she was .

Fantastic Harmony. Sara was one of a Kind..in more ways than one. Planning a visit to Mt Vernon Va to see her and A. P. graves soon. A.P. was one of my relatives but he didn't treat her right. Poor lady.

Too bad we don't hear this type of music anymore! I grew up listening to The Carter family,Jimmie Rodgers & Hank Sr. Gospel music, I doubt if most people would even know what an autoharp is,if not for Mother Mabel & her daughters playing it! & I know there has got to be an autoharp in heaven being played by one of the Carter girls!

Carter Family "simplicity and wonderful musicianship has never been surpassed". Amen to that. In the 80+ years since the Carter's first recorded I've yet to hear any other group that could provide such incredible instrmentals with only two instruments. I listen over and over to many Carter songs and remain awed by the instrumentals by Sarah & Maybelle on autoharp & guitar.

The electronic world, in one sense, brings us all together. In another sense it confines us in our own little worlds. I talk and joke with strangers, in grocery store lines, burger joints, etc., to remedy this malady. When I see frowning people, I ask them to smile, so people won't think it's Monday. It seems to bring them out of it. Pass it on!
