The Case of the Late Pig is a crime novel by English writer Margery Allingham. It is the ninth novel featuring the mysterious Albert Campion and his butler/valet/bodyguard Magersfontein Lugg.
As Lugg is reading aloud the obituaries one morning, he comes across one for an old school nemesis of Campion. Remarkably, an anonymous letter inviting Campion to the funeral has also appeared in the morning post. R.I. “Pig” Peters is dead. So says the doctor that treated him.
Five months later, Campion receives a panicked call from a friend, something about a murder. Campion drives down to the friend’s home where her father reveals the most assuredly dead body of R.I. “Pig” Peters, his head caved in no more than 12 hours earlier.

These are such a treat. I will be forever grateful for my mom having us grow up a non tv dependant household. Evenings at home in the winter listening to radio....you just cannot put a value on that. It feeds your soul and it's priceless. Thank you, Mom!😘 And Thank you, too!

My father had a Blaupunkt radio and late at night I'd sneak away from bed to warm it up, slowly turn the dial, lots of squeals and static, then finally, a clean crisp sound, from someplace far away, usually a British voice. The productions weren't as sophisticated then as this one, but the effect the same, imagination let loose in a warp in time, indescribable but known to those who found this channel.

The weather forecast at the end was interesting,the days of closed motor ways and roads across the country reminding us how bad winters used to be.Fog and snow crippled the country,proper winters.

These light-hearted Comedy Crime Capers are so redolent of a bygone era....I mean, Margery Allingham, a Lagonda, manservant, butler, cocktails....ah those were the days...thank you Chesterton Radio.... broadcast originally as a Saturday Night Theatre drama on 9th January, 1982 and features a host of radio voice actors stalwarts. Well worth the listen. Full cast announced at the end.

Dog licenses. That bought back memories. We had to buy one once at the post office and the clerk said "name, and I don't mean Rover". I expect so many people had said the dog's name instead of their own.

Love Saturday Night Theatre. Campion one of my favourite detectives. aided by Lugg an old Borstalian who' lorst his figger" and became a gentleman's gentleman.
