Well women still earn less money than men so it’s not really equality in 2022. Some men only want equality when it effects women negatively :( it’s like some men are like “hah! You wanted equality huh?? So that means I can hit you and don’t help you with your car and make you pay even if I earn more!” I’m not saying you have these opinions, but as a woman I would be very happy to see men fight for real equality. That women shouldn’t feel scared of going home alone at night. That women don’t get abused or murdered by their partner. Feminists aren’t evil witches that want to steal money from men. We just want to be respected and safe in society. And sometimes the ones laying down need more help than the ones standing up. So that both genders can some day walk together. And those in power have the power to change their own behavior, and do their best to inspire other men as well.

Okay I just have to say this…Y’all…SINCE WHEN IS WHO PAYS FOR THE FIRST DATE IN THE CONTEXT OF A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP RELEVANT TO A PERSON’S RIGHTS!?!? Equal rights refers to access to the same opportunities, equal pay for the same work, equal respect, equal bodily autonomy, the right to not be discriminated against due to gender, etc. Shocking and disheartening how those rights that are being fought for get thrown into the same group as who pays on the first date. Maybe help fix the gender wage gap and then women might be more willing to offer to split the bill or pay. Personally I’d split the bill and/or offer to pay. But that’s just me. Don’t judge someone who wants the man to pay. They have every right to. That’s a personal decision that is relevant only to them and their relationship. For many it’s as simple as women liking to feel cared for and treated to some old-fashioned courtship values. There’s nothing wrong with wanting that and still expecting to be seen as an equal. Plenty of men also still take a lot of pride in being able to pay for the first date. But honestly, regardless of why people make the decisions they do about paying for dates, why the hell do other people care so much about what other people choose to do in the context of their romantic relationships? It’s kinda weird. If you’re on a date with someone who disagrees with you in this arena and y’all can’t work it out, just don’t date them! It’s that simple. No need to make it this huge debate throughout society as a whole

Well it's not about rights in this context imo. That's a different conversation. It's just about treating each other as equals and moving past outdated gender roles/norms. Courtship values literally come from old fashioned relationships that stem from a culture guided by toxic masculinity. No one has the right to expect anything of anyone except common courtesy and respect. You better believe I'll judge someone who expects me to pay for them and then tries to diminish my personal value for believing I don't have to.

My point is simply that this is a personal decision within each relationship. I don’t think it has anything to do with “equal rights” or “equality” as so many in this comment section seem to believe. My comment about not judging others was directed towards some comments I saw judging others with different opinions on the topic of who should pay on the first date. Seems reasonable to me you’d judge someone who diminishes your personal value for not paying. People can want the type of old-fashioned relationship where the man generally pays and still respect men who they may go on a date with and find don’t want that. And yes I know that these are outdated gender roles and norms guided by toxic masculinity. I completely agree. But it’s only toxic if it’s a societal expectation where people are shamed for doing otherwise. If an individual relationship that is healthy and thriving happens to have some of these old-fashioned roles, I don’t see why it’s such a problem.

It's funny how equality is a huge thing (as it should be) UNLESS not having it is in your favor. This is pretty typical in dating. Ladies you can't have your cake and eat it too. Definitely still feel like its largely expected for men to pay for expenses on the first date and to also take the lead in conversations. In my experience at least. Definitely not always the case, but still implied more times than not.

Men should always pay on the first date unless they are just looking to sleep with you. If a man is genuinely interested in you and trying to impress you the least he could do is pay for a meal. That doesn’t mean it has to be that way every time going forward, but first impressions count. I could potentially be vulnerable and relying on this man when I’m carrying his child, what does an act like this signal to the woman’s primal instincts and subconscious mind if he won’t even want to pay for a first date?? Think.

Who pays on the first date depends on the girl. If she is a strong and independent woman who has banged half the campus and given the monkey away for free, why should she get paid for it with a dinner?! Some dudes pay for the monkey, some don’t? Nope. She should not even be dated. Fellas, always find out a girl’s reputation before even thinking of a date. Check her instagram. She got narcissistic posed pictures looking for attention or a dating app? No date. Just sex and bye. She does not respect herself so why should you?!
