Maine dayboat and true diver-harvested scallops are explored in this 1st episode of a new series about how sustainable, high quality seafood makes it to our plate. Equal parts fishing, species knowledge, travel, adventure and cooking combine to make this informative format an engaging viewing experience to a wide audience of all ages.
Our oceans are a beautiful and incredible resource that have an amazing bounty that can produce an abundance if harvested carefully. If we make sustainable seafood choices, we can ensure that we have healthy oceans to hand over to our children. Fish populations are declining and fishing communities around the world are suffering as a result of overfishing and destructive fishing practices. 75% of the world’s fisheries are either over-fished, recovering, or on the brink of collapse. If major seafood players don’t commit to sourcing sustainable products, we’ll soon see our favorite fish disappear from our plates. The mismanagement of fisheries and the scale of illegal fishing make a continued commitment to buy sustainable seafood by each of us a critical choice.
Hosted by Jardar Nygaard, a life-long fisherman, fishmonger, oyster farmer and seafood expert. Produced by Community Shellfish, Bremen Maine and Emmy Award winner Bob Altman.
