+Madlittlepixel Even though you're using Euro scart cables, maybe the system output through the cable with Japaneses scart pin-out, which could still send signals down the wrong lanes to the OSSC.

RGBs output voltages from an arcade PCB (and that includes MVS slots) are way higher than RGBs voltages from a home console. For Arcade / MVS we got : Video sync: 0-3V AC swing, 0-5V DC bias, high input impedance (1-10kΩ) RGB signals: 0-3V AC swing, 0-4V DC bias, high input impedance (1-10kΩ) For home consoles (SNES, Genesis, Neo-Geo AES, etc...) we got : Video sync: 0.3V AC, 0-2V DC bias, low input impedance 75Ω RGB signals : 0.7V AC, 0-2V DC bias, low input impedance 75Ω The difference can be explained by the fact that arcade monitors don't embed any video amplifier whereas there is one inside each TV set you got at home. So in order to compensate the lack of amplification, the arcade output signals must be "stronger". If your OSSC didn't cope with the higher voltages coming out from your MVS slot and expected "standard" RGB levels as the ones from a home console, it might well be the reason why it's damaged now :=(( This consolized MVS RGBs output is taken straight from the jamma connector. Adding some resistors on the R/G/B and sync pins would have made it TV compliant but unfortunately, that's not the case...

From what I understand you just need to use a scart cable with a 470 ohm resistor, like the one Retro Access sells.

Nice. Looks like a Jamma box conversion. Very nice. Was debating getting one of these or getting a Jamma Box itself. Looks like this is just a consolized all in one of the Box and MVS 1 cart to boot. Thanks for the info

Upon inspecting more I think that the problem is that you used a saturn csync rgb scart cable for an ntsc console. Those are built differently than the ones for Euro saturn. The pinout is different. So you accidentally fed ossc with a dc input and not with a sync and that blew something on ossc. Check if there is a diode on ossc that is fried or ask marqs or someone from ossc forums for details

I was very interested in buying this at $180. It's cool and affordable. But when I Click on the link it takes you to AliExpress with a cost of $196 plus an amazing $58 in shipping bring the total to $254. Some people still think this is a good price but when I'm amped and ready to pay $180 and then get hit with $254..it just doesn't fell like a good purchase anymore. Especially with the possibility it can fry the OSSC and framemeister...

Update: While I'm in semi-regular correspondence with the seller on AliExpress found in the direct link in this video, it's been close to a month and they still haven't shipped my unit. As I previously mentioned, they allege that they make each unit by hand/on demand, and when I inquired about when mine would be shipping last week they updated me that customers have determined an "issue" with the Saturn controller ports that they're working to correct (and would delay the manufacture and shipping of my unit). Since they've ultimately been willing to be chatty and not drop off the face of the earth, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, but hell if it isn't a frustrating wait. Has anybody else managed to order one from that link and get immediate shipment/tracking info? Is this just me that's getting the runaround?

Thanks for the response, I actually finally got mine a few weeks ago, and it's fantastic. I don't have an OSSC card, so I don't have to worry about that potential issue. The rest is perfect. It did arrive with one loose nut rattling around on the inside of the case, but I got the clear body design and I could see it, so I simply opened the top with four corner screws, grabbed the nut and screwed it back on the mounting screw it had come off of tightly. That's literally the only issue I've had with it, it's otherwise an amazing consolized Neo-Geo!

Such a bummer on the OSSC, I reckon it is most likely that Csync from the jamma is fed straight to the RGBS port and is at TTL level or at least at a higher voltage than what the OSSC expects. you should lodge a complaint with ALI before you miss the window.

So I recieved my cbox about a month ago now. And I can confirm he has fixed the resistor issue and works just fine on my ossc. And he now does the stereo mod as well. Which is probably why its more expensive. It really is awesome. Plus the flexibility of the unibios that the aes doesnt have I love it. Plus if the board burns out eventually 60 bucks and I got a whole new board I can pop right back in.

What I find strange is using the OSSC if the consolized MVS has actual component or S-video outputs. Your best bet would have been to use an old analog capture card with s-video input as analog has a higher tolerance to out of range carrier voltages. I prefer to make a divergent capture over a passthrough one. Meaning I have dual ended cables. Some ends go to the capture card and the others to the monitor/tv to avoid voltage overloads through passthrough. Remember that the MVS was designed to be connected not to a regular TV but to a dedicated monitor, most of which aren't even full NTSC compliant both in signal and voltage. Also, the Unibios is a hacked BIOS for the NeoGeo AES and MVS to allow it to run unsigned code and make it region free among other things. If the consolized MVS has a physical Saturn video output, then using your Genesis HD Retrovision cable + Saturn adapter should have worked on your TV as long as it passed the composite test on your TV (I see that the consolized MVS has a composite video output).

Cons: meh build quality, OSSC incompatibility, no customer support. The JNX cmvs is around $300 IIRC from Todd's video. Pro: Solid build quality, OSSC compatible, unibios installed? US based customer service. Cons: only neo geo controller compatible, single AV output, more expensive

AFAIK interfacing arcade hardware with consumer AV equipment is not as straightforward as many people think. A lot of consolized MVS systems don't do a great job of properly conditioning the signals for devices like consumer TVs and scalers, resulting in blown up equipment like your OSSC. If my assumption is correct, I wouldn't use this at all until a hardware revision was made to address this issue, otherwise you risk damaging more of your equipment. In any case I would get in touch with the people who sent you the MVS first. Hope it all gets sorted out for you!

I have noticed MVS carts are way cheaper, but I'm building my own consolized MVS (I already ordered an MVS board and SuperGun so I might as well build) and I've REALLY wanted SNKvC to be my first game for it. I think I may be able to get away with slightly lower amperage but I have a few 4 AMP power supplies on hand. Mine must have been manufactured by a different company to have a 5 volt input while the one in the video is labeled for 12 volts.

cvl I read other arcade boards have done the same thing with OSSC's so Im not 100% where to blame honestly. But ive also read tons of people having no issues. I think its probably isolated to the SCART cable not working properly with the board. Wish id of known this was possible and would of only used component instead. Sucks when you are excited about something then crap like this happens. Oh well... Wanted to make sure people knew what my experience was so they could avoid a similar problem.

But if it's being repurposed for home use then surely they should reduce the sound power to avoid any issues, after this isn't an arcade component any more it's been adapted (mostly) for use by noobs to arcade PCBs...

@electronash
@electronash 6 жыл бұрын
Larry Bundy Jr Do you mean using the Flash cart on the Hyper? I wouldn't have thought so, no, as the Hyper is based on the N64. It would require some sort of uber-adapter, if it's possible at all. I think the Hyper does use the same main RCP chip of the N64 though, which would mean that an adapter could probably be made to use an Everdrive 64 with it.
@electronash
@electronash 6 жыл бұрын
Larry Bundy Jr I take it back. lol The Hyper does use the same VR4300 MIPS CPU as the N64 (just the NEC-branded version), but the rest of the chipset is still custom. The cart connectors are physically different to the MVS / AES too, but it may still be possible for a simple (ish) adapter to be made for an existing Flash cart. But, since the hardware is still radically different to the MVS / AES, new menu code would need to be written as well. Yeah, perhaps I should just say "ain't gonna happen". :p

@SmokeMonster 6 жыл бұрын
Wow, that thing is pretty cool with the Saturn controller inputs built in. Maybe it blew the OSSC because it pumps out amped speaker-level audio, instead of line-level? They haven't removed the audio amp circuit on the pCB, and MV-1Cs lack line-level audio without removing that and modding it a little so that would make sense. If that's the case, it could be dangerous to plug into a TV too.

Your OSSC died, but that is a coincidence, if it was done by this machine then it would be killing everything else you connect it to as well. Very unfortunate that it occurred, but these things happen. That is most certainly a genuine MV1-C, it is not a bootleg. The UniBIOS screen will often do that with a 161 in 1 cart, use a genuine cart and it will be fine.

This video is quite old now. But the company did recognize that there was a voltage issue with the rgb sync, so yeah it was the machine that had an issue.. Not the mvs but the add on boards. @@Madlittlepixel The MVS outputs a TTL sync signal that is too high to send into consumer display devices, it was designed to be connected to commercial grade displays. They will have likely taken this sync and hooked it direct to the output, because there is no composite video to use as a sync line instead. Really should have a resistor on that. What surprises me about this though, now that you have said what you just did, is that almost every display device out there will have some sort of protection from minor over-voltage on the input signal lines, where obviously it would seem the OSSC does not. Having not seen an OSSC in the flesh i dont know where the sync line runs to, or what it goes through on the way to where it ultimately has to feed. This is likely an oversight on their part when designing the device, and it really should have been expected that high sync signals could be hooked up in error. There is a few cables out there with amps in their SCART plugs that boost the sync to dangerous levels (not sure why, if it is done right that is never needed on any consumer grade display, but i can only assume it was originally implemented to facilitate the possible use on commercial/professional grade displays such as PVMs/BVMs/XM29/almost any CRT video projector, etc), and in theory the use of one of these "boosted sync" type SCART cables would also be likely to blow the OSSC. If that sync line goes through some sort of buffer, then that buffer (if present) may be all that is dead on your OSSC, but if it did, it is very unlikely it would have failed in the first place.

The boards sell for ~$50 all day long so you paid $130 for a cheap supergun and a plastic case. Not a horrible price for what you get I guess if you're paying for convenience I guess. If they sold it with controllers at that price that would be much more like it. I built my own arcade controller box around my MVS motherboard with a 161 in 1 cart, power supply and JAMMA harness for less, but I did the work myself. Definitely not a fan of the company that is consolizing these.

I don't want to add salt to injury but you should have researched first before using it with the OSSC, it is well known that arcade systems don't work with upscalers as they were not designed to work with those voltages.

Problem is I have had AES and mvs. Before hand the best converter I had used was 400$ the deadlus for the aes. This is the best route for neogeo games I no longer have an aes the games are too expensive. So a way to play mvs games like this would be great however I have a super gun and it has most neogeo games even stuff like cyber lip burning fight crossed swords later neogeo games motw. Both are good ways to go but to collect mvs carts this would be good enough.

If you buy an MVS CBOX I would recommend using a $30 Neo Geo to HDMI adapter from Amazon. It works perfectly with my stainless cased MVS CBOX. The adapter is sold for use with the AES console but as long as you have the same RGBS output that fits the plug it will work. It up-scales video to 720p and gives audio over HDMI. Even if it happens to fry it, it's a small loss.

I went to that AliExpress page and purchased the unit. No word from the seller or shipping info for a few days after paying. I messaged them and they said that they hand make each unit and it'll take 20 days before mine is ready. The only problem is AliExpress will automatically cancel the sale in 5 days from date of purchase if no shipping info is entered. Is this what you experienced when you bought yours Madlittlepixel? I'm trying to get more info from the seller on the logistics of this. I suppose worst case scenario is that AliExpress will just give me an automatic refund.

Don’t be scared of using a mvs with an ossc. I use a mak strike supergun with my mvs-1fz as well as my cps2 board to my ossc for well over 6 months without issue. No problems with the 161 multi, darksoft multi, or real mvs carts. I bet something is out of spec with that mvs from aliexpress like too strong of a signal over the scart lines. I’ve also heard of this capacitor on the ossc burning up a lot lately. Can’t remember the cause of the capacitor but I thought it had something to do with one of the scart switchers.

Well to be honest, it's really unique that u have that but, you know, fighting games were, how should i say this, they weren't my thing back then, that's why i never got into NEOGEO stuff, i mean yes i love Mortal Kombat and Tekken 3 which i played back on Sega Genesis and PS1 but, other than that there were nothing catching my eyes And right now the only fighting game i play is MK with a Genesis layout Controller on my XBOX One X i mean i barely tried Smash Bros despite that it's one of the hottest games these days i just play, i don't know, Platformers and some RPGs such as Final Fantasy and Fire Emblem so, yeah i know i'm a bummer However, i DID order a NEOGEO Arcade Stick Pro cause i really love the Cosmetics of it and one game i really love playing with it is Double Dragon, which is a Beat Em Up on the rest of the consoles but a Fighting game on NEOGEO

The voltage on Arcade rgb signals are too high for consumer av equiptment. You need a resistor if you aren't hooking it up to an arcade monitor. Conversely, consumer consoles can look overly dull on arcade monitors without a signal boost. Even new arcade monitors sometimes need the brightness turned up to full when running pc / mame emulators instead of original jamma boards. For someone with limited knowledge, stick with pc emulators
