The Celestron StarSense Explorer Range of telescopes is a relatively new innovation that lies between a manual mount and a computerised go-to mount. With your phone in the dock, and using the proprietary app, the telescope can help you find objects in the night sky, and even show you objects you may not know about.
The Celestron StarSense Explorer range runs from small refractors LT 70AZ and LT 80AZ, small reflector LT 114AZ, medium refractor DX 102AZ, medium reflectors LT127AZ and DX 130AZ, up to two Schmidt-Cassegrains, the DX 5" and DX 6" models.
Bill, Optics Central's astrophotographer, unboxes the LT 70AZ, the smallest of the StarSense Explorer range, assembles it and shows you how to calibrate the phone.
Finally, he takes the scope out and demonstrates how the app actually works at night, finding a couple of objects in the Southern Hemisphere's sky.

Thank you so much for this video, I brought this telescope for my husband last week and have been struggling to see anything through it. This is so far the best explanation so far.

Review would have been so much better if we could get a glimpse of what we would actually see through the eyepiece instead of what's on the app screen

"I bought this telescope, not as a beginner but as an experienced user, for my 16" self-built truss tube Dobsonian. Simply because of the code for the app. I could also build the mount myself. I find it a missed opportunity that you don't offer the whole thing separately without the telescope. I've seen some Dobsonian users with 20" and 24" Dobsonians using this system at ITV this year, and it works really well, even though it's still too bright for important target stars at 200x. Offer it separately for around 50 dollar or so, and it would sell like hotcakes. Clear skies Felix"

@@OpticsCentralAustralia Do you think is worth to buy a Barlow Lens 2.5x for this telescope? Or is better I invest in the future with a new telescope more powerful? Thank you
@OpticsCentralAustralia
@OpticsCentralAustralia 3 жыл бұрын
I don't think you will get much extra performance out of a Barlow, apart from on the planets. This telescope is all about showing you what is out there. The logical upgrade from here is that once you have learned something of the night sky, to upgrade to a scope with a large aperture such as a 10" Dobsonian. That will show you an astonishing amount more of the things you can find, but not see well, with the LX 70AZ.

Can you take pictures of moon and planets with the phone in situ? Looking for a telescope for me and my son but want one that can take actual photos
@OpticsCentralAustralia
@OpticsCentralAustralia 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Fullmetal Alkami, you'll need to get a separate phone adapter to take pictures through the telescope. Celestron sells a good one called the Celestron NeXYZ Smartphone adapter but any smartphone adapter will work fine. You just need to be able to clip it to your eyepiece.

Would you be able to take a video of what your seeing through the eyepiece
@OpticsCentralAustralia
@OpticsCentralAustralia 3 жыл бұрын
Well, there are way of doing that, normally by removing the eyepiece from the telescope and attaching a special camera (say, a QHY 5-III 174C). The problem is that cameras can be much more sensitive than your eye, so after processing, the video will look better than what your eye would have seen. This gives people who watch the video an unrealistic expectation of what they'll see in the telescope. Also, everyone's eyes are different, meaning even if I try to make the video look like what my eyes saw through the scope, it might look better or worse than what you see. Finally, there's something magic about looking through a telescope with your own eyes. It gives you that feeling that what you're looking at is really there. You just don't get that in a video.

So does the telescope have a motor and moves on selection of what you choose on the app?
@markmaxwell2765
@markmaxwell2765 29 күн бұрын
No motors…you push or guide the scope to the object selected by following the direction arrows in the app.

use Google Voice translate? It works flawlessly. My friend speaks Klingon when he's drunk. Yeah it's a pain. But Google Voice translate sorts it all out for me. Although I've gotta admit😮...Google Voice translate does struggle somewhat when my Aunt Maud speaks in Ferengi 😂
