Each year, hundreds of people without family or next of kin are buried in country Victoria by volunteers who never knew them.
When someone dies and no next of kin can be found - or no-one volunteers to pay for a burial - State Trustees becomes responsible.
Since 2007, Old Ballan Cemetery is one of several locations in Victoria which State Trustees has been using to inter the people who, even in death, have nowhere else to go.
