I find it so awesome how the Chainsmokers have been incorporating some actual live instrumental performance into their concerts over the last few years or however long it's been, with Matt McGuire on the drums (and it sounds like they've also had some live keyboard playing in their concerts too, but I cannot tell because I can't see it (I'm visually impaired to the point of being completely blind)). I've always felt like this was something missing in many electronic music "performances". I like the electronic music group "Keys N Krates" for that same reason; they're actually a group of instrumentalists playing live like a band and not just "DJs". Pendulum is also another example of a live electronic music band that I like. Would love to hear someone like David Guetta or Deadmau5 or Tiesto or Skrillex or whoever incorporating some live instrumentation in a show or maybe several shows; it could be something as simple as the DJ playing live on a keyboard or drum machine or another instrument over the top of the recorded tracks they play on the decks, or it could be a bit more complex, like having a full-on live band (or even orchestra!) playing along with the DJ. Or to take it even a step further, on the extreme end of the spectrum, the main artist (David Guetta/Deadmau5/Skrillex/Tiesto/whoever) might put together a band, where everyone (including the main artist) is playing on actual synthesizers and keyboards and drum machines, I.E the drum machines and synthesizers and keyboards that were used to even create the sounds in the first place would be played live on stage. This could be done either in the form of hardware synths and drum machines or software-based ones being played via MIDI controllers. This would all be played completely live, I.E no DJing, no prerecorded tracks and no sequencing involved at all. These are obviously extremes on the spectrum, but my overall point is that I don't see why more real live performances can't exist in electronic dance music even though it's "electronic". We have electronic musical instruments that can be physically played on, live, in the same way we've been playing traditional acoustic musical instruments for thousands of years, so I say why not use them to truly 'perform' in electronic music? It just makes sense! Now I'm not entirely against prerecorded audio tracks or prerecorded sequences in electronic music, but I feel like they're used to an overwhelming degree, pretty much at the expense of any live instrument playing whatsoever, at least when it comes to the "mainstream" stuff that's around today.
