The challenges and opportunities of centralization or decentralization: Informing structural reform of the Swedish health system

Digitalization offers an opportunity to rethink how the health system is organized to meet health workforce and other long-term challenges. In Sweden, a parliamentary investigation is starting in September 2023 to inform the policy-making process and build consensus around major structural reforms in the health system.
Finding the optimal balance between central governmental authority and the degree of autonomy of local public bodies is an enduring issue in health policy that affects all countries.
There are risks and trade-offs with all health system reforms, but what are the challenges and opportunities of centralization and decentralization? What are the inherent tensions in that need to be considered? How have other European countries managed these tensions? Join us to find out!
