It's true. I'd heard it for years until 2003 (but always on Q107 out of Toronto, and I always thought it was Derringer). But I had a tow home one night in '03, and the driver asked me if I liked "Maclean and Maclean". Sure enough, there was The Champ! Well, I snapped!

I walk my dog regularly as she sniffs around, lamp posts and all. A neighbor recently commented, "Hey, Champ, your bitch has been sniffing around my pole again." "Pardon?!" "I lost it. Uppercut, right cross........"

106.9 FM The Bear used to do these skits. I listened to all the great 90s alternative rock out of Canada on this station when I used to live in upstate NY.

@chaucy9 unfortunatly, 'The Champ' aka Gary Maclean of Maclean and Maclean, passed away in 2008. His brother Blair, passed in 2001-2002. The 'Champ' radio spot in Edmonton are fake.

Maclean and Maclean invented The Champ, and did a cut on one of their albums, but all these are from radio’s Brother Jake Edwards. The brothers licensed this to Edwards, who was at Rock 101 in Vancouver.

It's Brother Jake Edwards rendition of a 1986 MacLean and MacLean comedy album skit The Champ based on George Carlin's character from a 1972 skit. Edwards was doing The Champ on Q107 before McJuggerNuggets was born. So, it's a copy of M&M's copy of Carlin, only way funnier.
