"The Chaser" by Infinite is what I consider a perfect song, and one of my all-time favorite kpop songs. In honor of its ten year anniversary in May, here's a pre-birthday appreciation gift.

The chaser had its vocals planned by the absolute GENIUS kim boa, even before joining spica she vocally trained the kpop groups with literally the best harmonies (kara, rainbow and infinite), and recorded demos/background vocals for Infinite: the chaser, be mine, white confession, many more Kara: jumping and several songs which we don't have access to her version Rainbow: mach, probably many other songs T-ara: one & one, lovey dovey, bo peep bo peep Apink: no no no(citation needed), eung eung Momoland: bboom bboom Lee hyori: toc toc toc Chung ha: roller coaster Nine muses: news She's a genuinely legendary hitmaker, which makes me wonder why she never hit genuine fame
@wjsilas2 жыл бұрын
Kim BoA is one of the most talented in the industry. She is one of few who genuinely feels the music. You can just tell from her singing that she is fully aware and immersed in the songs. It doesn't surprise me that she makes these smash hits because she has a knowledge and understanding of music that's greater than ours.

This era of infinite songs was SO GOOD. Be mine, btd, paradise, etc. are such classics, I love love love when a song will end with a rap from dongwoo or hoya, it's something I rarely see anymore and it was so unique.

The fact that this song is going to be 10 years old makes me feel like an old hag lol, I remember I had recently got my drivers license and I would blast this song in my car. This was the first Kpop song I showed my mom that she really liked lol, so many memories. edit: Also I just miss sweetune as a producer, literally made some of the greatest Kpop songs of all time (including the chaser), they had such a signature sound but each song would still be so unique in its own way.

they perfectly knew how to capture the essence of each group they worked with: kara, nine muses, rainbow, boyfriend... what a good time to be a kpop fan

i think that most people underestimate infinite (and the artists of woollim ent as a whole - even if there wasnt much of a company to begin with...) infinite has a great discography and great members.. and im glad to see woollim groups that came after them also live up to the standard set by them

Honestly, we will never have another group quite like Infinite. All of their title tracks are instant classics that have aged really well compared to some of their contemporaries. I knew this song was older, but didn't realize it would be 10 years. I would love to hear your takes on other legendary songs like "Fiction", "Mirotic" and underrated ones like U-Kiss's "Standing Still".

ever since hearing this song for the first time, i’ve regarded it as one of the best kpop songs ever made, if not the best. however, i’ve always found myself unable to articulate why and how it is so good. this video puts it into words perfectly.

I feel like every kpop related video I've watched in like the last week has mentioned Infinite's "The Chaser" being the greatest kpop song of all time, so it's very fitting that I watch a video dedicated to it

My little inspirit heart just...soared and burst and I can't stop fist pumping. I've been screaming at anyone who (likes kpop usually) BREATHES about infinite for so long. I miss them so much. They were revolutionary in their own way. When they released Bad (omg the INTRO ORCHESTRA, I miss Infinite orchestrations) I'd never seen an MV shot with the 360 camera that you can turn and touch at will. If you haven't seen that version it's SO COOL. And the story telling is wild. I'm gonna go blast Last Romeo and Be Mine until I cry now. Thank you

Omg how is it 10 years old? As soon as I heard it for the first time three years ago, it shot up so fast in my 'favorite' list. It still is to this day one of my favorite 2nd gen title tracks of all time. I mean its perfection is timeless. I remember melting AS SOON as I heard the chorus. It was everything, emotional, exciting, intense and powerful. Listening to "The Chaser" is an actual journey, its almost as unpredictable as it is predictable, if that makes any sense. I know you have heard this a million times but your description of this is perfect.

I love how you mentioned how good the rap parts are. Sometimes Kpop rap parts can feel out of place and are my least favorite parts of the song but it fit in so well into the song and really added to the song. Also the choreography really fits into the song. It’s not too complex (looking) but really helps accentuate the beats and moments of the song. Hope that makes sense. And you’re right that’s there’s this emotion in the song that really drives home the feeling and elevates it.
@pearlmcj2 жыл бұрын
I think the magic of this song is a mix between how earnest it is - no put-on personas or sexiness or cuteness, just these guys performing the shit out of their vocals and choreo - and how the song itself is both a product of its time and timeless. You’re right, the production is dated, but it is still so effective, and I truly can’t think of another song, Kpop or otherwise, quite like it. I am beyond thrilled to see my favorite Kpop analysis channel tackle one of my all-time favorite songs. Beautiful work as always, your grasp on the power of words will never cease to astound me 💖

I know you've probably heard this before but I am absolutely in love with your writing style. The way you play on emotions with imagery in the most perfect way - words cannot even describe how much I adore your writing. And your delivery! You deliver those delicious metaphors with so much tenacity and conviction! You leave no room for anyone to doubt your earnestness. I'm obsessed.

My reasoning would be a lot simpler because sincerely this song needs no explanations as to why it is so freaking good lol, but your review is super detailed and pleasing, you put to words all the feelings I would simply describe as: talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before.

It's so funny because you can cal lthis song "Dated' and it totally is, but it's TIMELESS and literally NEVER GETS OLD. I could hear the song 100 times a day and each time this song hits the chorus it feels like I'm hearing it for the first time again...

Your explanation is in-depth and so detailed and yes, I agree with everything you just laid out! One word to describe this song, for me, is: Suspenseful. It keeps building up with each verse and makes you float high above, waiting until that drop comes. But it didn't happen and instead you were hit with a key change in the near end and you're now soaring up to heaven. Genius music production paired with amazing vocals, one of the most legendary kpop songs indeed.

I have a feeling that I would have been an Infinite fan if I had found out about kpop sooner. I came in at the very beginning of the 4th generation, so was only adequately exposed to the biggest 3rd Gen groups or those that debuted in 2016/17 and onward.

I'm so happy people still talk about this song and how good it is, my all time favourite kpop song! Everything is layered so well, it feels like a lot is going on but its not overwhelming. It maintains its momentum throughout, something that I find lacking in a lot of current kpop. The song feels like its building the whole time but instead of the typical drop you get the key change and it works so well. Its just such an exhilarating song!

hearing someone actually articulate and break down everything that makes this song so unforgettably good is so satisfying. i've never had a song give me quite the same feeling, have quite the same energy, before or since. one of the best kpop songs, actually no one of the best POP songs, of all time. also it's nice to have a video to point people to instead of trying to badly explain why i love the song so much when people ask lol.

OMG. I just randomly searched the name of this song and I see your video pop up and posted barely 22 hours ago 😭😭 That being said, The Chaser is the best kpop song to date. I cried the first time I listened to it, and even now, after many many years I still get emotional. That key change in the final chorus is one of the most beautiful things I've heard in a kpop song and it will never fail to make my heart beat faster. Thank you for talking about this song, it deserves lots of love ❤

I went to look at the choreo version of this song since you reminded me of this gem and I found this comment of mine from 5 years ago:Wow they modulated twice. Really cool incorporation of the rap too, love how they don't break the momentum of the song at all. Good stuff. I was into K-pop since 2008 but didn’t get into infinite till later, hence the comment not being in real time, but still, proud of my earlier self for recognizing the greatness of this song lol.
