I picked mine up in shockingly good condition for $350 with a body cap, focusing screen, and film back. Got the lens separately for $130 and a waist level finder from a buddy who had an extra one kicking around. It’s such a cheap and easy way to get into the Hasselblad ecosystem, especially if you want to go the fully mechanical route. If I want a 500c down the line, all I have to do is buy the body. Highly recommend picking one of these up.

I went thrifting today and picked up a case that had two 500 EL/M bodies, an 80mm 2.8, 50 f/4, 150mm f/4 and a 250mm f/5.6. It has a prism viewfinder. no backs though. I picked all this up for $50! Gotta go thrifting!

Man I just got 3 hasselblads. Two 500cms and a 503cx. Long story short I kept getting outbid on eBay so I bid on 3 and won all. 2 of them in mint condition. And the other is a 25th anniversary number 517 Looks like it was a studio camera which got a lot of use. They all work so I’m happy with the purchases.

@@OceanicNASA about $5500 for all 3. And funny thing my mom just brought me another 500cm , so now I have 4. I’m only going to keep the 503cx and the rest will be sold at some point.

The ISO dial on the left has nothing to do with metered prisms. It is used to control TTL flash with an SCA Adapter and Metz flash. Metered Hasselblad prisms only meter, and provide an EV readout in the finder. The user has to transfer that EV value to the lens manually. Then, the locking button between shutter speed and aperture rings can be engaged to lock that exposure. Once locked, the rings can be rotated in unison to maintain the same exposure as the meter provided. Early versions of motorized 500 Series cameras used either one or two Varta NiCad battery, not D-Cells.

Love that these are available. I feel like if didn't just recently invest in a Pentax 6x7 kit I would make a leap to this instead. That 6x6 format is definitely really intriguing. Either way I'm happy that there is a (currently) available way for newcomers to realistically hop into the hasselblad film ecosystem

@jklphoto

Zander, you have to buy Hasselblad lenses (for 500 Series) which were made by Zeiss. The real Zeiss in Germany. They are pure manual lenses and contain a leaf shutter. So no, you can't use Nikon or Canon lenses.

Hi, interesting video, thanks. I’m lucky enough to have a 503 and ELM500. Generally prefer the 503, but where the ELM comes into its own is with a digital back. That is a very different experience. Have you tried that?

The biggest cons of the motor are the electronics that can malfunction due to age. Also, the classic 500 series without motor are more sought after as they are fully mechanical and do not require batteries. I see the elm versions indeed more as studio cameras in 1 dedicated spot.
