The CHEAPEST Kastking Reels: Are They ACTUALLY GOOD? (Kastking Spartacus/Brutus 1 Year Later Review)

Today's video is another review style video, where I go over my thoughts and opinions on two of Kastking's least expensive casting reels after using them for a year. I originally bought these to try to find some less expensive alternatives for the high-dollar reels that we all see crowding the shelves in sporting goods stores and tackle shops.
About this time last year I bought the two cheapest reels Kastking had to offer; the Brutus and the Spartacus. Each of these reels are less than $50, so for those of y'all who fish with inexpensive gear, you may want to check out this video to see if these reels are right for you. @@spicecantfish1321 yeah the fishing KZfaq community is very small and not a lot of people do product reviews like you did. I just picked up a Megatron 200 and out of the box I love it but I don't want to buy two of the same real from a company I'm not sure of so you really did help me out

You bet dude! For the money, Kastking makes some decent stuff. Met the guys who run it, super cool guys. Would suggest looking at some of their reels in the $70-100 price range, from what I hear they’re pretty solid. Appreciate the kind feedback, tight lines!

@@spicecantfish1321 next question what rod do you recommend? I know ugly stik is king, but I looked at favorite white bird rod and kastkind perigee II rod, even grit stick casting rod, I'm asking your opinion of thos rods

@@r.davidvaughan8887 always gotta keep a couple ugly sticks around haha! I haven’t tried any of the 3 rods you asked about, or heard anything about 2 of them. I’ve held a whitebird briefly in a Dicks Sporting once, but that’s about all the hands on experience I have with it. Seems like it’s a bit on the softer side, definitely a moving bait rod. Even the 7’6” heavy is more of a parabolic heavy from what I can tell, and the 7” medium heavy or 7”3 medium heavy, whatever it is, is almost a medium. Not a bad feeling rod, not the lightest but not the heaviest either. I only own 1 favorite rod (although I used to have a second one before I lost it to the lake) but they weren’t bad rods, Just nothing special. Sorry for the long response, hope it helps!

Seriously don't buy bargain crap. Buy a good rod and you won't be looking to replace it a month from now. Fenwick Lews or the like.

Good video thanks for your time making this 👍 Dose the brutus line lay rotate when casting out i have a cheep reel and its anoying because the line lay device only works on reteive Thanks chris

Hey Chris! Appreciate the nice words. If you mean the line guide (that little circle at the front of the reel where the line goes through before it goes on the spool) then yes it does go side to side both while casting and retrieving. The wine noise might be the centrifugal breaks.

Yeah I think they just have cheaper braking systems so they get louder faster

that sound when u reel its failing part of the bearings, i had 2x that issue, had to buy the parts from kastking main website twice! its 3 bearings, spool, pinion gear bearing, or the side plate bearing. If ur interested in buying the bearings you can purchase them on their main website for 7-8$ i can guide you if ur interested.

I'll have to give that a look! I really did like these reels for what they were, wouldn't mind switching out the bearings on the Spartacus and getting it back on the water

@@spicecantfish1321 so those bearings can be all 3 or 2 or 1 its better replacing all of them just in case, when you order on kastking main website choose the $6+ one for parts then when purchasing list the product description and part number you can go on reference on schematics page in there also. There was recent parts i tried to order recently, they weren't sure they had any so they sent me to parts guy, but he was out for a week, i bought my parts from aliexpress and now im waiting for 3 weeks. On aliexpress i can buy multiple parts for cheaper as you know kastking is made by Chinese parts sold in USA, so they use similar parts hence why failing parts. Thats what you get when you purchase kastking lower end gear, im pretty much done with cheap gear and going shimano, diawa, okuma, lews, and abu.

Hey there! No, I only used these reels for freshwater. They’re pretty inexpensive so they don’t have the best components hence the noise, but I’m rough on my stuff so it may have been my fault

Yeah, I had some issues with the Spartacus pretty quick after I got it, but I guess it can be fixed or serviced with new parts. Kinda what you would expect from a low price reel. But the Brutus was worth it in my opinion!

The Spartacus is a piece of crap. Mine was defective. I have a Megajaws that sounds like a coffee grinder after a year of light use. You get what you pay for.

I think for $35-40 it’s not a bad reel. Would I choose it over a Shimano or a daiwa? Never. But for a weekend dude or someone just getting into fishing they’re not terrible options. I definitely like the Brutus over the Spartacus though, i have to say I was not impressed with that reel at all. Sorry to hear about your megajaws but I’ll definitely be sticking to my shimanos/daiwas. By the way, have you had any experience with the Chronarchs? I hear good things and really bad things. They look decent, but I don’t wanna spend $300 on it when I could just save my money for something else. Appreciate the feedback dude!

Ehhh they’re $40 reels, I didn’t care too much about them haha. It was more of a test to see what they could do for the price point. I wasn’t planning on using them for more than a season which is about as long as they lasted

Kastking; read their return policy. Hope you save your receipt. I didn't, got a defective reel and I have to eat it.
