"The Chosen" is a new series about the disciples of Jesus that has exploded around the globe. As of the time of this recording, the series has been viewed over 180 million times!
And while each episode may appear to simply tell the stories held in the Bible, there is an incredible amount of historical and theological detail that might slip by the untrained eye.
In this video, I'm going to break down three scenes from the first episode of season 2, highlighting some details that will not only change the way you view the episode, they might also cause you to see and interpret scripture in an entirely new light.

I will soon turn 60. In all those years through Tent Revivals, Sunday school, worship services and Bible Study....I learned that Jesus loves the meek, the innocent and the humble. Yet I didn't fully understand the significance of these teachings. I do now. Powerful kings can force obedience and loyalty, but they can not force the heart to love. Though Divine, Jesus walked as a lowly man. Though Omnipotent and Powerful, Jesus was humble and only used His Divine Power to heal, to serve and to minister. Thank you for this wonderful knowledge!!!

The interesting facts is that the actor George who portrayed John is literally Greek himself. The show brilliantly cast George for the role just as they did a phenomenal job in casting the roles of disciples for the other actors involved.

@@BrandonRobbinsMinistry Yes, several of the actors who portrayed Jesus’ disciples come from other countries like George. George speaks Greek fluently. Simon the zealot is from France to Moroccan parents. He was a martial arts competitor and has won awards. So you see him doing acrobatic movements is from his background in marital arts. These actors have such interesting and fascinating backgrounds.

I have to say it again and again that re-reading my Bible now is fun!! I thank you for being obedient to God to bring (new to us)the true meaning of the Scriptures. I get excited whenever throughout the day I pick up my (poor raggedy well used and loved) worn out Bible and read with new understanding! I even understand the words I’ve highlighted and made my own notations better and I smile. Sometimes, I actually say, ”oh no, this is not good of me having misunderstood something I now know was wrong of me to think or do”! And then I get excited to go forth with that correction as a new goal in my walk with Jesus and in how I present myself as a Christian. ❤

One of the Hebrew words for "work" carries the additional connotations of "service", "till" and "worship". I don't think it was accident that the writers of The Chosen had Yeshua instruct James and John to "till" the Samaritan's land as an act of "service" to him. In so doing, their work of tilling the land as a kind hand ("service") for the injured Samaritan man, it was also an act of worship. It was an act of "humility" that Brandon talked about in this review. Blessings.

John 13:13-15 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you." Having a humble heart is challenging in face of adversity or opposition but it reminds me that this is the narrow way that Jesus told us to follow.

There is some good evidence that the gospels were written even earlier than that. None of the gospels refer to the destruction of Jerusalem which happened in 70 AD. Jesus had prophesized the destruction of Jerusalem and it would make sense that the gospel writers would have noted that if it had happened. That brings the dating of the Gospels two earlier than 70 AD. Making them even more relevant as ancient biographies.

Dr. Brant Pitre, in his book, "The Case for Jesus" makes a compelling argument for the writing of the synoptic Gospels and Acts to before the imprisonment of St. Paul in 62ad.

I actually started understanding the Bible more after watching The Chosen. There's also detail in the book of Matthew where "he was sitting in the tax office" which was something that just flew over my head when I read it before watching The Chosen. I'm a visual learner therefore The Chosen has truly helped me a lot!

I loved this video. Especially how Brandon tied it all together with Jesus’s humility toward the end. It confronts me with my huge, hideous pride. So anathema to all that Jesus is. Thanks for the insight on the origins of the four Gospels. For my part, I recall a substitute teacher in a College/Career Sunday School class--a lawyer--who suggested that the Book of Acts and the Gospel of Luke were a two-part "amicus curiae" brief on Paul's behalf, as he stood before Nero. An "amicus curiae," or "friend of the court," brief is something someone, or some organization/government agency, would produce in written form for a court--appeals or Supreme--to consider as it makes a decision regarding a question that has been brought to them. Scores of "amicus curiae" briefs are being submitted to the Supreme Court regarding the Texas heartbeat abortion law recently passed. Were the four Gospels we find in the New Testament "...inspired of God and profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for instruction in all righteousness?" You bet your bottom dollar! They were, no less than the tablets that the very finger of God carved which Moses carried down from the mountain. But did Luke know that? Did John, or Matthew, or Peter when he was reciting his memories to Mark? I doubt it. Luke was merely providing documentation to Paul's legal counsel, the law firm Dewey, Cheatham, and Howe, for whom Theophilus worked, what they requested to get Paul off. But God was guiding, directing them, in His inimitable, perfect way, to write what we needed to have, to come to know His Son and the gift His Son gave us. :)

5 months after this video, I'm introduced to the Chosen & Brandon, and have cried over every single episode so far in the first 2 seasons! ❤🙏👍 In my understanding, when these men, inspired by the Holy Spirit of God, knew that they were documenting the life and times of our Messiah, I don't really believe that they thought that they were going to be much more than individual letters that were to be copied and passed around for each church to read, similar to the scriptures of the Old Testament. I'm not sure they fully understood the impact & importance of what would become, "The Gospels!" It would literally be almost 350 hundred years before the "Books" would all be assembled to be, The New Testament. Luke was a physician and was extremely detailed in his accurately researched writings, but his account is being compiled for Theophilus, a possibly wealthy and righteous servant of the day, I believe that he held himself to a very high standard, just as he did in writing Acts. Luke's account is probably my favorite. I'm loving and sympathizing with these characters so much in their struggles to understand everything, Jesus was certainly not easy to understand. I pray that this series reaches billions by the time it's completed, and they come to know Jesus as their personal Savior. Thank you Brandon for your helping us to understand.

As always, a very informative, educational video. You really bring the Bible to life in a similar way that The Chosen attempts to. Christians have the tendency to read and try to interpret the Bible through the lens of their culture and experience. Consequently, a lot gets lost in "translation". Although the word of God applies to our lives today as much as it did to first-century Christians, it is important to grasp the historical, cultural, and ethnic setting in which the events recorded in scripture took place. I am looking forward to your next review and lesson. God bless.

I've watched this video for third time and it is amazing, with your help, to discover a new approach when reading the Bible. I've tried many times to read the Bible and I couldn't make any sense at all. Thank you for showing us a new window and showing us the real meaning of the "kingdom of heaven"
