This is one of the most underrated movies I’ve ever seen Hassidic Jew who was born into it but didn’t feel it and a modern Jew who related more to the tradition and these 2 guys learned from each other everything about themselves. For those of you who haven’t seen this movie whether Jewish or not it’s really a great movie and teaches a lot about us and tolerance. But a very beautiful movie

In the book? Daniel shaves his beard, cuts his hair. He eats kosher, observes the Commandments rigorously, and in his father's eyes is a "tzaddic for the world". Rueven becomes an Orthodox rabbi. In the subsequent book, "The Promise" Rueven achieves his Rabbinate, while fighting over Torah with a survivor of a death camp. His father is tormented by Rueven's teacher for writing "apostate" guides to Torah. Rueven's Dad has a friend who is a "secular Jew" who preaches love of ceremony but does not believe in G-d. His son acquires a mental illness. Danny starts to cure the boy of mental illness by confining him inside of a small room. Danny marries the niece of Gordon. Rabbi Potok was not shy about meeting controversy head on.

Remember reading this novel late 80's at school. In Melbourne. Part of the curriculum. Loved it and the movie !

The dialogue between them at 4:55 is so poignant and you can feel his disappointment. Robbie Benson is so sensitive in his performance too, the way he says ''come come... dance'' so kind

mierpaul zozo He said “Thanks”. Danny never said anything about his sister caring for Reuven, he was just saying, I know you like her, but she’s engaged and it won’t work out. He didn’t want his friend to be hurt.
