I have two of them in big pots here in Northern Ohio, Once mid October comes they come inside. They go back out come mid April. I agree with you on no exposure below 38 for these guys. Very sensitive to temp changes. I have them against my big Glass sliding door facing the wide open full sun south during the winter. They actually will grow 6-8 in during winter. Summer usually a foot. They love being around Ponytails Palms. I have two Ponytails, two - 3 trunk Christmas Palms, along with a Washingtonian Windmill, Saw Palmetto and a Bottleneck Palm all close together for a very tropical look near the HOT TUB!!! Lots of work and maintenance for the trees here in the CLE, but well worth it. I love them! They all are originally from MIami.

Greeting The Palmfather :) Thank you for sharing your video. I have quadruplet christmas palm trees in a three single pots in my patio, I germinate the seeds myself from the start. my baby palm tree is three feet at the moment, growing very well and very healthy... so far, I'm so amazed at how well my baby palm tree turned out. Q: When is the best month to put into the ground and how far apart from each other since it is quadruplet christmas palm tree? Stay safe. Thanks, Jen

Very nice. Glad I found your channel. I have two triple trunk foxtail that got kind of beat up this winter. (2018). They both have spears but seem to be taking a long time to open. How long should I expect it to take for them to do their thing? I'll add this here too. I have a triple trunk Christmas palm that I'm pretty sure has died from the cold. Still waiting now in April but I think it's lost. What similar palm can I put in that's a little more cold tolerant than the Christmas palm? Thank you!

Yes, Lesco makes a palm special, it is good for larger specimens. If you have a potted plant, I would go with a time release, like Florikan 13-5-11.

Hello Palm Fiend, I have just planted 8 Aldonidia at my house in Nicaragua all between ages of 4 to 8 months. Would love to ask you a few questions? 1. For maximum growth would I water them daily? 2. We have extreme 40 mph winds for 3 months of the year. What would you recommend to protect them during this period? I currently have them staked below the lowest frond. 3. The well water I use contains salt (low percentage). Can this be harmful for the plant? Great channel - love your work. Jeff
@TheCfkingfish5 жыл бұрын
I know this is late, but Christmas palms are very hardy to wind and salt. I would just make sure they were rooted in their spot and let them grow up. Well water, even salty should be alright.

I have a triple in a pot in my greenhouse in Kansas City and if my greenhouse gets into the forties too long at night it starts Browning up the leaves I've almost lost it twice so I just brought it in my house it's going to be above 60 all the time and then I'll bring it out in the Summers yeah they're extremely touchy on cold they're a lot like coconut palms it wouldn't surprise me if they are related.

I just bought a juvenile triple and planted it in the ground here in Lakeland FL. Right now the trunks are next to each other straight up and down. Would you recommend putting something in the middle of the three trunks to force the tree to grow out in the desired directions? Or will they automatically do this? I notice the base of the mature trees bulge perhaps doing this on its own. Let me know what you think.

You can just leave it on.
@justing84655 жыл бұрын
Ok thanks
@justing84655 жыл бұрын
I removed the husk on a few seeds and they all appear to have tiny holes in the tips of them. Is this normal for adonidias? They all passed the float test though.

Could these be planted in Atlanta Georgia??? I have a 1.5 acre of land but a lot of huge trees. Will the big trees be in the way of the sun??
@TheCfkingfish6 жыл бұрын
T Johnson these are very Tropical Palms that will dye out right at 28 degrees Fahrenheit. They would do really well out on a patio during the summer spring and fall but an Atlanta winter will do them in 100% unfortunately.

but should I wrap them or tie up to protect or just leave them?
@TheCfkingfish7 жыл бұрын
For the cold dry winds you have, yes I would definitely do that in a desert winter. They have tougher fronds than most tropical palms, but will dessicate nonetheless. I would use something that is not porous (no frostcloth) and tie them up to shield them
@davidmichaeldxbburke29557 жыл бұрын
thanks will give it a go and see how they get through the coming months here in Dubai
@TheCfkingfish7 жыл бұрын
Oh you are in Dubai? So it is very hot there now! I would spray them a lot during your windy season, I have some friends that helped do some of the botanical gardens around the city - that wind is brutal! If it is hot, try and keep the leaves sprayed down during this rough wind.
@davidmichaeldxbburke29557 жыл бұрын
they survived the high winds, now its intense heat 51c the other day, water twice a day and tied them up last night. The fronds are going brown quickly and new leave are coming but alot shorter.
@TheCfkingfish7 жыл бұрын
That sounds like rapid dehydration and a dislike of the intense heat. Make sure roots and fronds are moist as much as possible. A little wind is good to keep the heat off the plant, if you can filter the wind or heat with some cloth that may work, but I am not sure.

Worst thing about these palm trees is they get so tall so fast, you’ll have to keep paying someone to cut down those annoying balls that come out so often. You can do it yourself when they are reachable, but time flies and next thing you know you no longer can reach. If you don’t cut them down, they will be all over your yard.
@tomaud5 жыл бұрын
Should be renamed to: Anidia (I need ya), but the yellow variety should remain Adonidia (I don't need ya) as they are too hard to grow.
